Astrophysics would say that such an object is unlikely. The larger the object is, the more the effects of gravity will affect its shape, and since gravity is omnidirectional, this favors a grossly spherical object (it can, of course, have a rough surface like planets do, but when viewed from afar it will be spherical).thenumberthirteen said:I like that one. I would also like to hear an Astrophysicist's opinion on having cube shaped celestial objects.Danceofmasks said:The day-square.
A cubic shape would require some sort of external influence to happen, and would likely require some very special structures to overcome gravity's nature.
However, assuming that such a star existed, for the planet of Minecraft to see a square in the sky it must orbit the star at the same rate as the star rotates, lest the star's width vary significantly throughout the year (It would appear to be a rectangle most of the year). Further, it would have to be exactly on plane or the square would become hexagonal as the top or bottom faces become visible and affect its apparent shape.
Is that the opinion you wanted?
Personally, I like "The Day Square", "The Great Pixel of the Sky", or "The Great Glowstone". I actually tried building a spiral staircase to the map ceiling to try to mine me some glowstone the first time I played, but the game wouldn't let me build that high. (This was before I found out about torches)
