Anyone who uses a microphone for anything other than game strategy. So basically three quarters of Xbox Live.
Actually, video game tournaments have been broadcast on live TV, quite a few times. Mostly starcraft BW in korea, but it's happened in the west a few times as well.Fishyash said:It's an awful term, I wholeheartedly agree.Aris Khandr said:Are poker and chess really trying to claim that they are sports? Because if so, yeah, they're not sports either.
Sport implies physical activity... the term just isn't meant to be releated to video games beyond simulation.
But video game tournaments are growing in popularity, and there is a fair amount of money behind the bigger ones. Maybe some day they will be big enough to get broadcasted on live television?
Probably not.
It should not be named e-sports though, in fact I wouldn't even think it needs a general term. There isn't a term for competetive board game play is there?
Seconded. I can even give you an example of a specific subspecies of this group. I call them "nostalgists", and they are rampant in the Pokémon community. They believe that any games in the series that took place after Gold/Silver/Crystal have strayed from what they feel are actual Pokémon games. They usually whine about things like there being too many Pokémon, Ditto only being used as a Xerox for Pokémon via breeding, there's too must side stuff like the Contests, things like Abilities and EVs make things too complicated now, etc.Vrex360 said:The unapologetic misogynist hordes that have been cropping up as of late seemingly outraged by the notion of change.
I can only hope that the day when disgusting troglodytes like them are finally ostracized from the community is coming soon.
Hmm. Nope, my life is pretty good, thanks for asking.SoranMBane said:Elitists of any sort. PC elitists are, of course, some of the loudest and most insufferable, but anyone who'll call someone an idiot or flippantly dismiss their game-related problems because that person is playing on the "wrong" system really needs to take a long, hard look at how sad their own life is.
Now, see, the problem here, the real problem, is that without someone taking some kind of lead then you rarely get any communication. Everyone sits in stony silence and wallows in fail.Zac Smith said:This, completely hate it. You plan to have a nice relaxing game and BAM through the mic all the time. Giving orders acting like they are the best at the game. Most of the time their score isn't even good. Then they ***** it's because no one is doing what they say.
I really hate it when it's a non serious game mode/map/server.
pretty much these guys they ruined Tf2 for meWhiteFangofWar said:http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/StopHavingFunGuys
These ones. Worst are the kind in team games who endlessly scream at you for playing any strategy other than the one they like. If the explanation as to why that tactic is superior to all others was courteously phrased and devoid of insults I might listen, but that's not happening any time soon.
Not the only people experienced with automatically shifting blame for losing team games onto anyone but themselves, just the most outspoken about it.
I have no idea what you are talking about. Could you elaborate?Daystar Clarion said:Probably metagamers, you know the types.

Final Destination.
Because fun sucks, am I right?
See, I've only ever rubbed shoulders with the elitist types. I don't think I've ever met the idiot, frat boy, hardcore type of gamer. The closest thing I've seen to them are the twelve year old, CS players. But then they're 12, so of course they're going to be obnoxious, foul-mouthed idiots. Do these "gamer jocks" even exist in the first place, or are we just confusing them with children?prophecy2514 said:Only type I can say are the previously coined "fratboy FPS and sports" gamers, who think any other game is too nerdy/uncool or complicated
I cant say I know any elitists personally (Don't play online), but then again I don't know any other gamers apart from the previously mentioned fratboy type, i'd gladly swap a fratboy for an elitist gladly. I only really bump into elitists on websites such as these and really their opinions I dont give a flying spaghetti monster fuck about anyway.
I'm not sure if anyone here's seen it too, but I really liked the CoD WaW multiplayer, it's pretty much dead now, but a few people still play, I like that, but...Somnambulistic said:Honestly there's one type that cheeses me more than any other type. "The Cheater."
I can't stand cheaters at games. The kind that exploit every glitch, bug, or code to get better, rather than just play the damned game. It drives me up the wall. Especially when they use the cheats and still can't play for shit.
The other kind I don't like are the Metagamers and Rule Whores of PnP games. I hate it when someone uses OOC knowledge with their character, and I really hate it when someone has their nose so far down into the rule book that they can't play properly without bitching every three steps about the rules. Ugh. . .
