[HEADING=1]INJUSTICE LEAGUE[br]ASKS [br][small]-What unusual animals have you eaten?-[/small][/HEADING]

Next month the Injustice League will be marking two years of existence and we will be holding a feast in celebration. We're stuck with a problem however, we're really tired of eating yet more orphan steaks and kitten sandwiches, for the upcoming meal we want something different. Something special. That's where you come in.

I want to know what unusual, rare or downright weird animals you've eaten and how they tasted. Most importantly, would you recommend them? Answer truthfully, the success of our party depends on this information!

Rabbit - Not really that unusual to eat, I know some people regard these as pet animals though. It had a lot of small bones, can't recall much of the taste really.

Frog - Specifically the legs. Tasted just like chicken, not much meat per leg though.

Snail - Guess where I was? Didn't taste of much and slimy, don't recommend.

Buffalo - Wasn't much different from cow really.

Alligator - Who ever knew they farmed gators? Also tasted like chicken.

[HEADING=3]-TL;DR What unusual animals have you eaten?-[/HEADING]

Well, some ants once crawled onto a corn dog I was eating when I was a kid. Instead of throwing it away or even dusting the little fellas off I just took a big bite. They have a taste similar to vinegar, very bitter buggers all around.

Can't recommend them personally, though I hear Ant Eaters give better reviews.

Ostrich, scorpions, crickets, frogs, snails, gator...

Not to mention a medicine wine in China where the only thing I could identify was some seahorses...

The most exotic is probably ostrich burgers, which are really nice. I've also had a fair amount of venison as there are quite a few deer farms nearby, but I'm not sure if that counts as exotic. I've also had horse in both France and Tesco products.

I wouldn't consider most of these unusual since they're often popular dishes in the areas where they're eaten, but they were unusual to me.

1. Pickled jellyfish - doesn't really taste like much, but has a surprising crunch to it rather than the jello like texture one would expect. Kind of reminded me of eating a cucumber.

2. Alligator - tastes like greasy chicken.

3. Kangaroo tail - tastes kind of like beef, but gamier.

4. Sea urchin - my friends hate it and say it "tastes like slimy" but personally I don't mind it. It's difficult to describe the flavor

I'm sure there's a bunch of other stuff that I could put on this list, but because I live in a large asian community and have access to multiple Chinese, Japanese, and Korean supermarkets there are quite a few animals (like squid, all variety of shellfish, octopus, and a couple of things I don't even know the name of) that aren't very unusual to me even though they might be considered unusual elsewhere in the US.

Rabbit actually tastes really nice

I guess the weirdest thing I've eaten is squid rings... I took one bite and imagined I was biting into an actual living squid and spat is back out...

I've had those, they aren't too bad as long as they're battered nicely, not enough of a seafood fan to eat them without that.

Honestly I guess venison or buffalo, but I don't consider either of those very weird.

It's not really easy to find "exotic" stuff in stores here.

I mean... I guess clams are different an animal as I've gotten but still.

I guess it means I should go out and eat me some squirrel or raccoon huh?

They were battered and I was trying so hard not to think of it as seafood but.. I just couldn't.

I guess it comes from my fear of fish and slimy things, I went to a seafood market in Spain and nearly fainted I was panicking so much...gah.

2. Calamari (more common now than when I first had it)
3. Buffalo
4. 'Gator, freshly killed is best.

Can't say I have had any that I remember. However, there's a BBQ place near where I live that serves frog legs and gator, and I've been meaning to try both some time, particularly gator.

I had fried maggot once. Me and my family was in a zoo and they were talking about what they fed to monkey or parrot (I forgot which animals it was) which one of them was friend maggot and they wanted volunteer to taste it so I took up the offer. Needless to say it was crispy to eat.

I eat rabbit and venison pretty often and don't consider them unusual since my family live in the countryside, but a lot of my friends think they're weird. I really like both, but then I'm a big fan of most game.

I've also had (and enjoyed) buffalo, ostrich, kangaroo, and pretty much any sea creature you can think of (most edible fish and shellfish, squid, octopus, cuttlefish etc, etc).

I'm also perfectly happy to eat pretty much any part of an animal. I believe in making full use of the animal if you're going to kill it for food, so internal organs and such are fine by me.

Crickets probably top my list. Eat them raw and they taste like peanuts.
That's...unexpected. I would have thought they'd taste a bit like chicken. :/

Chicken's feet - Would not recommend. Like the skin of a chicken, but not as good. All slimy and nasty.

Crab - Strange to many people I meet. Absolutely delicious, particularly - strange though it may sound - with a peanut sauce, as is popular in many restaurants to the east.

Doner kebab - No idea. Many claim it is meant to be lamb, but I don't believe them. I assume it is composed of the reconstituted corpses of convicts. Delicious though it is, eating one is a struggle against one's deepest moral convictions.

Haggis - Allegedly composed of the internal organs of sheep. Surprisingly good, especially with ketchup or on a pizza - yes, with black pudding and cheese - but sits very heavily in the stomach.

Pickled jellyfish - Incomparable to anything off the top of my head. Really quite a bit nicer than it sounds - does not present any problems the first-time diner might expect from it, such as unpleasant sliminess or chewiness. Pleasant.

Prawns - Believe it or not, these are strange to a lot of people I've met. They are frankly missing out. These little dudes are delicious. Plus, when you're done eating them...instant finger puppet theater!

Roasted pigeon - Quite pleasant, especially with some soy sauce and salt. Deplorably referred to as "the poor man's roast duck".

Snails - Really rather nice at the time, a pleasant change from the usual fare.

Snake - Eaten years ago...little is remembered of it, but witnesses report that I said it tasted "like chicken".

Squid - I used to love it, particularly with whatever the sauce was that they had it steeped in. Can't stand it now...it's chewy and greasy and horrible. It might be all right if it was served dry and in some sort of light batter, maybe with dipping sauce...that is the stuff.

EDIT: Kitten sandwiches? You uncultured peasant, kittens deserve a proper panini!

I've had reindeer and moose, both quite tasty.

Reindeer as sausage(the kind you eat cold, sliced by itself or on a sandwich), as well as jerky.
Moose slow cooked, with potatoes and horseradish sauce, absolutely delicious.

Doner kebab can also be beef, veal or even chicken. When I've had it, it's been beef. Very tasty. I'm not fond of lamb.

Oh and I've had rabbit too, but I wouldn't recommend it, it needs to be cooked hard and it usually ends up overcooked as a result, otherwise reminds me a bit of lamb.

I always call it donner meat. If you have a donner card thats where all your left overs go. I jest but its still a mystery wrapped in an enigma wrapped in a pitta bread with garlic mayo and chilli sauce.....mmm hangover cure

Haggis - Allegedly composed of the internal organs of sheep. Surprisingly good, especially with ketchup or on a pizza - yes, with black pudding and cheese - but sits very heavily in the stomach
its best if its traditional with mashed potato and turnip although if you go to a decent chippy in glasgow you can get deep fried haggis or black pudding which is also amazing

Prawns, finger puppets. This can only mean one thing. Daaaayyyyy-O day-O
