Ok, so, I know many of the Escapist population aren't really into sport (and most that are mainly follow NFL), but one has to agree, this is complete crap.

Seriously, utter bullshit. [http://www.espnscrum.com/scrum/rugby/story/138937.html]

Basically, half of the proceeds from this weekend's Irish and UK rugby matches are being donated to a "Royal Wedding Fund", teams are EXPECTED to wear Union Jack Embroidery (though the French are exempt, Irish teams are basically saying "You don't have to... But you should"), and there's also the fact that any player who gets banned for a foul committed in any game this weekend will have a harsher punishment than normal.

... I'm sorry, but that is just completely ridiculous. Ok, there's a royal wedding, most people really don't seem to give a crap. I don't care if the "Royal Wedding Fund" is giving money to smaller charities, the clubs shouldn't have half of their funds from ticket sales given away.

Because the clubs aren't already rich as fuck, with enough money to purchase South America.

Who thought this was a good idea? *sigh* My fellow Welshmen will not be amused at singing the English anthem.

Your title is informative as shit by the way.

This is rugby, not American football.

Rugby players are paid nothing in comparison to the players in the NFL.

I am more pissed about the fact that my taxes are paying for those scum bags to block up the streets.

Furthermore, 50% of all gate receipts and merchandise sales in European rugby this weekend will be donated to a special Royal Wedding Fund.
You can't deny it's an innovative way to extort people.
They're not even charging any more for the tickets though? They're standard priced tickets, so take the IRFU for example, they're still paying off a massive loan for Landsdowne Road (You might call it the Aviva Stadium), and this really won't help with that.

WTF? A harsher punishment than normal for committing a foul on this special occasion? Man oh man I'll admit that definitely is some crazy BS, especially considering that the Royal Wedding Fund should in no way be in need of assistance.

Hey, they're more important than you common folk. Didn't you get the memo? I guess whatever taxes you're paying for the Royal Family aren't enough for their extravagant life styles.

See, now the Royal Family just seem to be trolling for attention.

Okay, Relics of a by-gone age.... I'm happy that you're having a joyous marriage!
Good for you! Now STFU!!

Wow, I'm a poet. And I....wasn't even aware of the fact.

I'm glad I have no royals. The government may be incompetent, but it can't guilt me into giving it money and dress a certain way.

I'd say make your title more informative but I wouldn't have clicked on it then because I just really tired of anything wedding related at this point. And yes this is bullshit.

Their silly hat party should not interfere with sports.
Seriously, I'm glad someone else noticed the hat problem they have there.

All these dainty little sideways atrocities.

Any hat that must be held by string to the side of your head should not be a hat.

Fuckin' 'MERICA! But in all seriousness, I am terribly sorry to hear that. Of all the times to be shamefully extravagant with royalty, this is not it.

Well this fund is actually for setting up community level celebrations, so basically half the ticket prices are actually going towards funding street parties and events, not paying for the wedding.
Does this make it any better?

No, it's still bullshit.
