OT: is marvel vs dc comics too obvious( or has it been done already?)
It has, in comic form, to the delight of NOBODY.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DC_vs._Marvel
The winners were based on write-in votes, meaning the whole thing was a literal popularity contest which led to such ludicrous upsets as Lobo (who has gone toe-to-toe with Superman) losing to Wolverine (who has been bested by the Punisher, a man whose only power is bullets and evading law enforcement)
and Wonder Woman (again, about as strong as Superman) losing to Storm (who once lost a fight to a pair of hair clippers. HEY-OH!!)
The miniseries gave birth to the thankfully short-lived Amalgam imprint, which featured such memorable characters as 'Dark Claw', who was literally the fusing of Batman and Wolverine.
The 90s sucked to be a comic fan.
Just saying.
Am I the only person who liked Marvel vs DC and the Amalgam Universe?
No sir, you are not. I find them silly and fun. Too many people take them WAAAY to seriously, it's just a fun crossover event.
Marvel vs DC had all sorts of awesome fights in it, even if some of the outcomes WERE a bit silly (I'll freely admit that the previously mentioned Wonder Woman vs Storm and Wolverine vs Lobo fights were dangerously close to crossing over from "silly" to "stupid").
And the Amalgam Universe books were great fun too, although it's kinda hard to judge them as one, since their quality is all over the place. Lobo the Duck, for example, is pretty awful. But X-Patrol, Iron Lanturn, and Spider-Boy were good. And there were some downright hilarious merged characters in there (seriously, Mary Marvel Girl and Siliconman both made me laugh out loud when I saw them).
I guess I can understand why some loath it, but I personally had fun with the series.
Okay, I'm WAAAAY off topic here. Time to steer back on course.
OT: I'd like to see an honest-to-goodness Mario/Sonic platformer, no more of this Olympic Games mini-game bullshit.
I AM FORCED TO RECANT MY PREVIOUS POSITION, SIR, as you are clearly not the only person to have liked those (HORRIBLEHORRIBLE) comics.
I will freely admit I am a massive thumping comics snob, having been raised on Moebius, R. Crumb, Alan Moore and Rocket Raccoon AND ALSO that the 90s were, in general, just a rotten time to love comics. We had the Knightfall saga to cling to and everything else was infested with Liefeld and a hundred bajillion Liefeld imitators.
I personally hated almost every aspect of those comics, MvDC and Amalgam, because of what they represented (a literal popularity contest and the mashups of many heroes who had nothing in common - seriously,
Batman and Wolverine? They're such complete opposites, the blend of the two should basically have detonated, ffs.
The only
more awkward and ill-advised pairing would have been if it was the Punisher instead of Wolvie.
Off the top of my head, I can list maybe a dozen pairings that would have worked so very much better - Batman and Daredevil would have been pretty cool, or Batman and Spider-Man, even. Fuck, Batman and Iron Fist would have made more sense than Dark Claw. AND ALSO NOT LOOKED SO STUPID. SO VERY VERY STUPID.)
HOWEVER I fully respect both of your opinions on this matter, your right to completely enjoy these comics, and your right to so on and so forth, yadda yadda yadda.
Frankly, I'm just amazed I'm not the only person who remembers Amalgam.
Or that Storm beat Wonder Woman.
A mutant who can alter weather patterns... defeated
the physical manifestation of Truth.
Seriously, that ended it for me, it was just so stupid that 15 years later, I am
still to this day, right now, bitching about it.
(I AIN'T PROUD.)
And now, back to your regularly scheduled thread.
(SOMETHING AWFUL'S GOON SQUAD VERSUS 4CHAN'S /B/)
(WHOEVER WINS... EVERYONE LOSES)
