The Silent Protagonist is a bit of a trope when it comes to games, But Valve has gone a LONG way to make it seem as if Gordon doesn't need to speak, as opposed to being unable to. So the disruption to immersion that comes from his muteness is avoided somewhat.

This in turn leaves the player to speculate on what Gordon, an MIT educated physicist and skilled warrior, is THINKING all the time. Look up 'Freeman's Mind' on Youtube for a humorous take on it, but I wonder how a serious take of the idea would go.

@anti nudist cupcake: Legion is a close runner-up. His lines are for some reason the most poignant and memorable of all the non-romance glib you can get people to say.
