Guess which country.
Sweden? :C

US, Florida

According to this site (http://fcit.usf.edu/florida/lessons/gorrie/gorrie.htm) the air conditioner was invented here, I thank my good fortune that I didn't have to live in Florida without air conditioning.
That is correct! :)

So I take it you live in Russia.
I'm from Russia, yes.
and yet no mention of vodka - I am disappoint :)

But in all seriousness some damn fine stuff has come out of your country.
Believe me, vodka gets boring when you have it for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day :D
Just like with most developed countries, there's some great stuff and there's some shit :)

The Olympics - England
Greece invented the Olympics before Britain was a country, even the first modern Olympics were held in Athens in 1896.

Are you getting your facts from restroom grafitti or something? Because that is the most grossly incorrect statement I've heard all month.

Sorry. Misunderstanding. The format of the modern Olympics was invented by an English man. Not the Olympics themselves. Sorry.

Understandable mistake, next time cross check your facts or you'll get an ass like me being mean to you.

Also it was a slow month for grossly incorect statements.

Uh... It's a pretty long list. The UK should also get Canada and Australia's inventions. Canadians and Australians were just British people who colonised bits of the world we wanted. I'll give the US a free pass on that, since they left the Empire Club and can keep their "special" list of inventions.

But really, Britain? You don't want to get into this, 'Mericuh. Our inventions between the Napoleonic Wars and WW2 (About 140 years, less than one tenth of the time our country's existed so I count that as being a reasonable measurement of time) probably altered the world more than if America had existed for 10 times as long as it has.

So :p.

EDIT :

not really invented.. in both cases people stole your land and then invented their own country..

if I came to your house stole all your stuff and then used it to invent something you wouldn't say YOU invented it.. I invented it.. your just the poor sap who's shit got stolen and used for material
WAT. America, I'll grant you. They rebelled and are their own country. But please read about Australia before claiming that they "invented their own country"...

Australia was a British invention. As was Canada. Directly. And at no point was there a rebellion or anything. Right up until WW2 all our colonies were subject to British law and even now, the Queen is Canada and Australia's Monarch.

After WW2 we just kinda let go, due to our massive debt and inability to run an Empire any more. It was more friendly than the Thirteen Colonies rebellion.

i like how the note pad was invented by an australia. it just seems wierd to me that no one invented a note pad earlier. like in the 1800 or something.

also the feature film, you would think america would have done that first.

And also airplanes. Really, google Santos Dumont.

There is more, but they're not as awesome, if I renember correctly.

Romania so did not invent penicillin!!
(or the jet motor)

Dude, rule : if only your country claims inventing it and EVERY SINGLE OTHER COUNTRY ON EARTH disagrees don't expect many people to agree your country invented it. Romania is kind of like North Korea in this sense. They claim invention of things without validity. This problem happened during the official communism period and today nationalism keeps the myth alive.

Paulescu wrote a paper about that may have identified penicillin but he did NOTHING to bring his discovery to the world and probably didn't note what he had stumbled upon. The Canadian discovery occurred a year later then potentially maybe when Paulescu identified it but Banting and Mcleod actually did something about it and helped bring it to the world.

Plus Paulescu was a horrible person, a rabid antisemite whose main contribution to the world was his hatred.

Don't even get me started on your claim about jet engines. Let me just it this way. If we left it up to Romania, there would be no one flying today.

Sorry to burst your bubble.

Britain invented the Jet Engine (Frank Whittle). [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Whittle] Britain also invented the steam engine, at first it was an atmospheric engine invented byThomas Newcomen [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Newcomen] and was massively improved by James Watt. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Watt_(inventor)]

Brunel [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isambard_Kingdom_Brunel] Imvented the large iron hulled, steam powered ships.

I could list all day, Britain invented about 75% of all the important innovations during the industrial revolution. Other Nations invented some critical stuff like a French industrialist invented programmable machines and some important looms and other textile related innovations. Britain did most of it though.
