Seriously it was an alright film but it was nowhere near as good as some othr films I've seen (Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, Taken). Now I'm no troll and i respect others opinions but I just don't get it. Please explain what you liked about the movie :).

I thought it was rather underwhelming. I liked it, and the social commentary was great. It just left me feeling... unimpressed.

Eh, a little late my good friend, now it's cool to hate on Avatar.

I only kid, i only kid.

Personally i liked District 9 becuase of how it was as a whole, it was different then most movies in the way that it looked and acted. Although i will admit it wasen't a holy godsend which changed the way filmaking is today, it was still an enjoyable experiance.

I think Taken and District 9 were great movies.

Super hero movies.... on a whole lesser level unless it's the Dark Knight.

Anyway, I liked it because it made me care about the two protagonists, the son, and want to punch the army guys in the face and console the wife.

And it had awesome guns, a funny parallel to the US' racism and the best thing of all was the quote, "maybe if they were just from another country but these guys aren't even from this planet!" And i laugh everytime I hear that because it's such utter bullshit.

I also liked the documentary feel. I think that's why a lot of people dont' like it.

It was fresh and done well.
That, and it was presented in a way that the main-stream audience could enjoy it, and those looking for intellectual meaning to it would also find it (the themes of racism and apartheid being some of them). That, and it was one of the few science fiction films that year that was actually a science fiction film, and not just a poor excuse targeted towards morons (Looking at you, Star Trek remake).
Also, I would clean up your post (grammar and spelling-wise, I mean) before someone else says such.

Some people like Charlie Chaplain, some people like Laurel and Hardy. This is why competition is a good thing. As for myself, I really dug District 9, despite my growing tiredness of epistolary films. The Last Broadcast blew my lil' mind, but now it just feels kind of gimmicky. I'm glad Blomkamp and company decided to use it as spice, rather than the main dish.

I found it fascinating as both a social commentary and as an effects fan. When I read that all the "prawns" (did we ever get a better word for them?) were CGI except for corpses I was blown away by what Weta had achieved. I normally hate CGI of biological things and found the aliens interesting and astonishingly sympathetic.

Though a sizable part of the depth of District 9 seems to have been taken from an earlier film called Alien Nation, it doesn't really make a difference. What makes District 9 really good is that it's a genuinely thoughtful movie (a rarity in modern hollywood), making commentary upon human society, and the way we treat those in our in group, and those in our out group.

In it, the prawns serve as a metaphor for many of the refugee groups which exist in our world today, and which often end up in situations quite similar to the situation the prawns were forced into. By examining the situation that humans force the prawns into, we examine ourselves.

Take the fact that it was a genuinely deep film, and add to that the fact that it really was an enjoyable watch, with good solid action and an involving plot, and then you'll understand why I liked it. A movie that's both thoughtful and entertaining is a rarity, and District 9 was a gem.

I love the movie and I have to admit, its an acquired taste, I didn't really like it until I watched it a few times.

Even if you don't like it, you can't deny it has some of the coolest weapons in a film ever!

Also what a lead performance Sharlto Copley. Watching him turn as a bumbling, goofy sweetheart to the broken mess he becomes as his life spirals out of control is utterly convincing!

Somebody got stabed in the face and exploded. At the same time. That made my day.

But in all seriousness, it was a balls-out, ultra violent action flick with a monster special effects budget. but it also had an amazing story and smart social commentary. I see no problem with it.

It was alright. A sort of cheesy sci-fi movie with good special effects and a bit too much moralizing.

Now, A Prophet, that's a winner.
