It's a toss-up between 1994 and 2001. I got Tie Fighter as a Christmas present from my parents on the former, and a GameCube with Luigi's Mansion, Star Wars: Rogue Leader and Super Smash Bros. Melee on the latter.

While I was more excited about the GameCube at the time (because hey, brand-new Nintendo console), I find myself looking back on 1994 more fondly. It's probably due to the impact Tie Fighter had on my eight-year old, Star Wars obsessed self. I didn't even know there was a sequel to X-Wing (remember, no internet back then), so I was blown away seeing this brand new Star Wars game...one that had you serve the Empire, no less! While I relegated the GameCube to the closet over time and eventually left it with my parents (my dad loves him some Smash Bros.), I still fire up Tie Fighter every now and then.

Honorable mention goes to 2002, when I got Metroid Prime and Jedi Outcast.

Can't remember the year, or how old I was, but getting a N64 would be the highlight. Don't think I could top that if I tried.

When my grandmother bought my brother and I Final Fantasy IX. We had just gotten our PlayStation, and had just finished up VII and VIII. IX had just come out a few weeks ago (I think), but we knew we weren't getting it. Our parents didn't want to buy us video games.

Needless to say, when we opened that box, we both flipped out. We couldn't understand how she knew to get it for us because she didn't really understand games, but boy were we happy.

It's definitely a tossup between X-Mas 1997 and, X-Mas...I wanna say 2001.

X-Mas 1997 involved me going to my Grandma's house (where my Dad was living at the time) and rather than opening up anything Dad and my Uncle were waiting for me in his room with a Nintendo 64, Star Fox 64, Crusin' USA and, Turok. I also got a Playstation that year at Mom's house though I remember the games I got for that being Nascar 98 and, Madden 98. Then in 2001 it was a bit more traditional: presents were opened and once everything was unwrapped, Dad gave me a final wrapped present which turned out to be an Official Xbox Magazine. He opened up his entertainment system to reveal my new Xbox and a ton of rented games (Amped, SSX Tricky, Project Gotham Racing, Halo and, DOA 3 that I remember). Both were incredible years though anther great year was 1999 (Metal Gear Solid & Final Fantasy VIII)...I've had some great gaming Christmases.

My birthday and Christmas are less than a week apart, so a lot of times the presents blur together into one (both literally and figuratively).

I guess the best year, though, was when I got an Xbox 360. Along with it coming with Skyrim, I also got L.A. Noire, Crysis 2, and BioShock. (I had already played BioShock but didn't have access to a good computer at the time, so it was nice to have on 360.) Considering I loved all those games and the 360 has served me well, I would say that was a good birthday and Christmas.

Err probably 1993 when I got my Super Nintendo although it sort of wins by default as I dont remember any other Christmas where I got anything remotely gaming related. Its pretty much something I have to get myself.

Xbox, Hitman 2, Halo CE, Timesplitters 2, Splinter Cell 1 and Burnout 2.

It wasnt at launch so it wasnt an absurd price but every single one of these games are great classics.

In 1999, I got my first non-DOS computer, along with this gem.

In 1996, my mother managed to get the absolute last N64 in the area (She convinced the electronics manager at a Wal-mart to give her the display model).

It's a tie between those two. The objects from 1999 probably were better, but just the fact my mother went through so much to get an N64 adds so much.

No contest. 1996, I'm 5 years old and my family's just moved for my dad's job. I wake up (fuzzy memories) and WOAH there's an N64 with Pilotwings and Mario. I had played Gameboy games before, and a few times played SNES at a friends house, but HOLY DAMN THIS IS REAL 3D. We spend the next few weeks glued to the TV, finding 121 stars and getting gold medals.

Remember when console launch games kicked ass, and nobody described buying a console as an "investment in a Facebook-compatible multimedia tool"? Good times.

Probably 1992/'93 when I got my Megadrive (or Genesis, whatever) - first console I owned, second one I played. Got Sonic the Hedgehog and Double Clutch as an added bonus.

I don't know the exact year, but lining up dates I'm guessing Christmas 2002. Seven years old and I got my first video game machine, the mighty Gameboy Advance, along with Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland. Thus starting my love of video games.

This Christmass I got Xenoblade Chronicles X. 57 hours later it's in competition with Persona 4 for my favorite game of all time, which Persona 4 probably made my best Birthday for games last year. Though, there was 2008(somewhere around that) when I got World of Warcraft. It hasn't made my top favorite list mostly because while I love it to death the quality of the game doesn't hold up, it does have great memories though.

Err I never get any games for Christmas when I was a kid (I was more intro toys) so it would be the recent one like Borderlands or Supreme Commanders from my bro a couple of years back.

Ok sure I did get games this years (In No Kuni and The Last of Us for the PS3) but since my PS3 has been busted recently (I'm going to get it repair)...

Christmas of 2001, when I was fourteen. I got a brand-new PS2 and a copy of FFX. I loved that system for its backwards compatibility, and FFX is still one of my favorite games. ^_^

Captcha: I'm not a robot. (Well, no, I am. But I'm a backward-compatible robot!)

Playing Mass Effect 1 for the first time just after it released on Xbox 360. I forget which year ... around 2007 I guess.

either 1996 (?) where the family got a Playstation for Christmas where we got Casper and Bubsy 3D (i know, didn't have standards back then) or maybe a PS2 sometime in 2000 where we got Robot Wars (BBC UK), one of the WWF Smackdown (?), Timesplitters and Simpsons Road Rage. we were pretty young back then so we didn't get games that often unless it was from Christmas money or from birthdays. occasionally we'd get new games if Mum wanted to buy some for some reason like with Mario World, Mario 64 or Donkey Kong Country. that one Christmas where one of my brothers got Pokemon TCG was pretty cool, vaguely remember playing through the game and being impressed at those sharp graphics and sound compared to actual Pokemon games.

Only thing i hated from some Christmases were those shoddy 3rd party gaming merch, like Mad Catz stuff, remember one time where this N64 controller with lots of buttons just didn't work, whilst another time at said PS2 Christmas was this lame Memory card that needed a special disc to boot up first then somehow get the PS2 into accepting the card, so you had to let it defrag/adjust/whatever then insert the game you wanted to play. needless to say, that really sucked since we moved from a time where we just had memory cards or games saved directly to card or even passwords.

Hard to say, I've bought my own games/consoles as of PS times. I got a lot of SNES games as a kid, not necessarily for Xmas.
In recent memory, it would be these last couple of Xmas's. My girlfriend got me L.A. Noire last year, my mom got me GTA V this year.

2007 was the year my mother got me a boatload of presents, one of which was the Xbox 360. Got Gears of War, Call of Duty 3 and Bionicle Heroes, the former most continues to be one of my favourite games today.

Plus it very quickly allowed me to obsessively replay Halo 3 seventy million times in 2008 which lead to me getting in to this whole internet community stuff and therefore getting the Xbox 360 for Christmas inadvertently lead me to all you people! bots!

Most every year since '86 has been pretty good for games on Christmas. I got my NES at that time so I guess since it set me off to being a lifelong gamer beyond the arcade, that'd be the most memorable of all time. Plus I got near 30 years enjoyment out of that NES (it still runs actually) and a few of the original carts from that era are also in my possession and still run.
