For me, Bastion was fantastic. Great gameplay, visuals, story, soundtrack. It was a great rewarding experience at $15.
what was the best indie game of this year?

Shrug, dunno, but look at steam, it says "indie".Sober Thal said:Not to sound like a snob, an idiot, or a word nazi... (too late)
But what exactly is 'indie' about (Bastion) Warner Bros.?
Not taking you up as a grammar snob, I guess Bastion can be considered 'indie' as Supergiant Games is a company of 7 people that was published by WB, making the job indie, though I don't know how much money WB put into it... *Shrugs*Sober Thal said:But what exactly is 'indie' about (Bastion) Warner Bros.?
'Independent' means it was published by the company that made it.Alssadar said:Not taking you up as a grammar snob, I guess Bastion can be considered 'indie' as Supergiant Games is a company of 7 people that was published by WB, making the job indie, though I don't know how much money WB put into it... *Shrugs*Sober Thal said:But what exactly is 'indie' about (Bastion) Warner Bros.?
If Bastion does count as indie, it would be my favorite this year.
If not, Minecraft takes the cake (All three buckets of milk, three stalks of wheat, two lumps of sugar and an egg)
It all depends on what your definition of "is" is. The game was self-funded and developed by a small group of seven people with no external influence or control, and the only reason they sought a publisher afterward was that you can't self-publish on consoles (other than XBLIG, but for a game with as much time and money invested in it as Bastion, that would be suicidal). The only thing WB really did for them was distribution, kind of like how EA does physical distribution for Valve. For some people, that still qualifies it as indie because of how it was developed and funded and the level of creative control they retained. Other people say no. It comes down to semantics. Either way, it's a great game.Sober Thal said:Not to sound like a snob, an idiot, or a word nazi... (too late)
