Rubber.

A sentient tyre rolls around blowing people and animals up with it's mind.

It also had a whole meta-plot with people watching the tyre like a movie and we're watching them but I wasn't paying attention for quite a few of them bits so I'm not sure what the point of them bits was (I think it was meant to have some meaning but I didn't catch it).

Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom,
Boom, Boom, Boom,
Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom,
Boom, Boom, Boom.

Lord of War is my favourite movie ever. Superb acting and writing, gripping story, and overall a great drama that had dark humour seeded in. It's about a Ukranian-American arms dealer, played by Nicholas Cage, and his escapades. And no, you are not going to root for Cage's character, though you might get a few good chuckles when at one point he says "Grenades, yay!".
Plus, best opening sequence ever... no, seriously, that opening sequence embodied the character of the film perfectly IMO.

Also... BLAM! "Now you've got to buy it... I can't sell a used gun!" (or words to that effect)

OT: Um... too many come to mind... pick a genre and I'll wax lyrical as appropriate... -_-

it's a toss up so i'm putting two
Pitch black, basically a punch of passengers crash on a dead planet, with one incredible dangerous criminal (vin diesel) who escapes, and shit goes crazy when the sun goes down, the characters develop really well and it has moments of horror and pure comedy at the same time

dog soldiers,
basically soldiers vs werewolfs it's a dark comedy doesn't take itself too seriously and is loads of fun

that is an amazing opening sequence i like when he tries to sell that helicopter for "search and rescue" with the weapons seperate its so obvious what he's doing but they can do nothing about it

Grave of the Fireflies.

An animated film that shows the horrors of WWII from the perspective of two Japanese children. It makes me cry every time I watch it.
I'd agree. A horribly horrible good movie.

I'd also say Old Boy: Korean man is imprisoned for a long time and then released and told that he now has 24 hours (I think it was that long) to find out why he was kidnapped. Violent and fun with a good mind fuck ending. Who you're rooting for and against will probably change a few times before the end of the movie.

13 Assassins.

A slow but enjoyable build up gives way to loads of blood. LOADS. Also fucking samurai.

Also opinions and all but some of the choices in this thread make me cringe. I can't help it ;_;
I really loved that movie. Great action, and a simple but well-done plot. The only issue I really found was the lack of characterization on a lot of the characters, but that may just come from the fact that since I watched it subbed, I didn't really bother to learn any of their names.

OT: I'm gonna say Seven Samurai. Gorgeous cinematography, memorable characters, and the fact that the film has inspired so many others place it as one of the greatest films of all time, as well as one of my favorites.

The Incredibles

A movie that takes full advantage of its medium to create an exciting animated superhero adventure. Pixar's best.
Came here to post this. Absolutely flawless pacing and storytelling. It stands as an example that kids movies don't suck for adults, or need to suck to be kid friendly.

Recently... "Pontypool."

With the explosion of zombie stuff out there, I thought it would be impossible for a zombie movie to be original...

And then I watched "Pontypool."

***WARNING***

If all you want is to see a guy, his girl, and their comedy sidekick chainsaw and shotgun their way thru the horde... this is not the movie for you. It's character and story driven and actually took some thought and creativity. I can't even remember if there actually is an on screen action sequence in the movie, if there was it wasn't important and not the point of the story at all.

Do you have a source for that? Not that I doubt you, it's just I'd like to be sure.
OT:Watchmen
A reinterpretation of superheroes in an alternate history '85 in which America won in Vietnam, as well as other things.
Is also an ambiguous story which contains many criticisms aimed at morality and society.
A fascinating watch (ha ha) for any that want a thinker's film.

I bawled my eyes out, even on repeated viewings. It's amazing.

That is a damn fine film. It shows Pixar at its best in my opinion.

The prestige. Christian bale and hugh jackman star as 2 magicians that begin as friends, but become bitter enemies. It sounds weird, but it's truly a marvellous, marvellous film. My favoourite ending to any film ever. Also David Bowie plays Nikola Tesla in it. That's enough to warrant a watch, at the very least.

Secondly, Four Lions. British comedy by Chris Morris about 4 inept muslims living in England planning to stage a terrorist attack that will ring through the ages. It's unbelievably funny.

Anyways they're my 2 favourite films, Chris Nolan and Chris Morris are my favourite 2 directors.

Memento is still one of my alltime favorites.
Other movies which are on my top lists are: Wall-E, Zombie Land, Suckerpunch and Kick-Ass.

Also the Dark Knight and Inglorious Basterds, just because Ledger and Waltz were so fascinating that their acting alone was better than other moives.

There isn't a "best movie" for me, depends on the mood.

Best film I've seen in recent months? Letters from Iwo Jima

It's about the Battle of Iwo Jima, from the Japanese side. It doesn't glorify the Japanese military, but it gives an honest account of what the battle was like for them (every bit as bad as it was for the Americans and worse). Again, it's not designed to make the Americans look like the bad guys (it was directed by Clint Eastwood), but it's designed to show that, as bad as the Imperial Army was, Japanese soldiers were still human and they suffered a tremendous amount.

Ballad of Narayama

In a small Japanese farming community an old woman prepares for the ancient ritual where the old people go to the top of the mountain to die. Incredible film.

This is kinda why I don't like Clint Eastwood's movies (not the ones he acted in, just directed). They always have this extremely obvious point which was already realized by everyone else 50 years ago, Iwo Jima was to show the humanity of the Japanese soldiers, Gran Turino was to expose racism in modern America, etc etc. It's like he's stuck in the 50s and if he made these movies for a 50s audience that would be fine, but this is 2012....

Ok, that made me laugh, in a good way.

Ledger was still the better joker
im glad you found it funny

i knew someone would ask the credibility of me writing true story so i have prepared a credible source for this scenario
