I believe that Pokemon was the first anime I ever watched... though the first good anime I ever watched was Fullmetal Alchemist.

Wow you ain't kidding. Hell after that, everything else would be downhill.

For me it was probably an episode or two of Evangelion on TV, but for movies it was Porco Rosso and Nausicaa, which just blew my mind about what animation could be. Nowadays Porco remains my favourite film of all time.

That would be Sailor Moon, at the very tender age of three, maybe four. Didn't know, at the time, that it was in fact an anime. Just a normal - oh, alright - a bit strange morning cartoon. It was years later that I learned what it really was.

I guess that strictly speaking Pokemon was the first one I watched (although, for the purposes of this I'm gonna dismiss it because I only saw a few episodes).

The first anime film I watched was Princess Monoke (it was alright) and my first series was Berserk (and I thought it was fucking fantastic).

I'm still not much of an anime person.

The 1975 version of The Little Mermaid. Then some magical girl anime I can't remember. The first series I followed, and followed religiously, was Rurouni Kenshin.

Robotech. When it was first in syndication in the late 80's and I was much too young to understand it.
Also one of my first "transforming" toys a small version of the SDF-1. I didn't even realize it wasn't a Transformer until I saw Robotech again, when Toonami first started.

Pokemon. And unlike most kids I knew what I was watching and sought out more! :D (which failed as we didn't have cable)
But I've been watching anime ever since :)

But why does everyone say 'technically' pokemon/ DBZ/ yugioh. Or that they don't count?
They're 100% animu! :O
Well...maybe not 100% cos they were dubbed... but they still count!!

Hmm... can't remember what my first subbed anime was though... probably Fruits basket :/
I'll just stick with Pokemon 'cos it's cooler...

I can't be too sure, it was either: Dragon Ball (the first one) or Sailor Moon (my older sister made me watch it)

Sailor Moon, waaaay back in '92 or '93. I loved it, and I'm sure I'd still enjoy it if I watched the original Japanese version.

Dutch tv had loads of dubbed anime series back in the 80's.
I think my first would've been either "Alfred J. Kwak" (Ahiru no Quack), "Boes" (Gera gera boos monogatari) or "Vrouwtje Theelepel" (Spoon Obasan)

Hoo-rah! Me too! Can the United States please get the series rights back? I never got to buy the DVDs or VHS because I was like, 13-14. Didn't have a job, therefore no money.
