I remember playing Air Combat on the PSOne and flying through this huge canyon whilst shooting down helicopters. It was just like the death star run because at the end I had to shoot missiles and hit a radar dish in order to cripple the enemy forces. Finally I played against the boss, who was a bigass super-superfortress that was going to take over the world and I had to shoot its engines out. I really sucked back then, but the game was easy enough for me to beat and unless you count my dad's old copy of duck hunt it was the first game I ever beat.

Also I loved flying in that box canyon they put you in for multiplayer. I would fly to the bottom and fly between the rocks just inched above the ground and then swoop up majestically to kill my little brother. Also this is the game where I learned how to screenlook without getting caught.

Super Marios Bros.

every other game up to that point was either a never ending Atari game with no plot or an arcade game i couldn't afford to beat.

EDIT: That was probably around January 1986 when I was 7.

I think it was probably the original Crash Bandicoot.
And now I have the theme music stuck in my head... fantastic.

that would be Megaman 3, for the NES... I was 5 and had my uncle looking over my shoulder the entire time, occasionally stepping in, but when I finally went from start to finish alone, I thought I had achived something along the lines of GOW on insane, or TTFATF on expert... remember, I was 5

I remember finishing Shamus on the Commodore Vic-20 (probably around 1985 or so), but The Legend of Zelda (1987) on the NES was the most memorable.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 I think... I remember I was so excited I ran outside and told my mom. :p

Coincidentally, my mom beat Super Mario before I did.
