Red Storm Rising by Tom Clancy, great book. A little american and patriotic at some points, but hey, it was written by a naval warfare teacher in the 80's.

Executive Orders by Tom Clancy. I'm rereading the whole Jack Ryan storyline because they are good stories.
If you like Clancy I suggest looking at the Authors Nelson Demille(Night Fall, Wildfire, Lions Game...good books) and Robert Ludlum which are all spy mystery murder suspence books.

I'm actually starting to read the American Empire books by Harry Turtledove next. I like to spice up my books.

The Uncomfortable Dead, by Paco Ignacio Taibo II and another fellow, named Subcomandante Marcos.

It's a very light and extremely odd book, written by two different authors, each writing their own halves, and it's all about modern day Mexico, which might drive a few of you away :p
But... it's funny as hell, and literally takes a dirty stab at pretty much half the cliches in the world

Haha, when my ***** of a teacher announced the actual purpose of the book report, everyone in the class looked over at me. Their faces said, "Oh, you are so fucked, dude."

Plus my opponents chose two no name people that they didn't care about or even listen to during their presentations.

I'm hoping I'm not considered too old to be reading these books, but I re-read (or listened to on my mp3 player) the first Artemis Fowl book. I tried to read Twilight, but it wasn't good enough or bad enough to keep my interest.

That's not a matter of age.
