With all the realistic shooters and whatnot, joy is certainly more hard to come by these days. My definition of joy would be Just Cause 2 or Saints Row 2. The smile literally never leaves my face.

Rock Band 2, when I nail a tough song. In fact, I was playing Prequel to the Sequel on drums the other night, and I played so well, I couldn't stop grinning when I finished. That game always makes me smile. :D

Cthulu Saves the World.

I'm a big fan of Lovecraft's works, and I thought the story in the game turned that on its head quite nicely. Some genuinely funny dialog, ooold-school rpg fighting (like, FF1) with newer style game mechanics (save whenever you want! Branching level ups!), added onto the fact that it only ran me 3 bucks.. I smiled quite a lot actually.

Good question. What stands out from me in recent memory are:

Entering Mexico for the first time in RDR.
Laying hands on The Widow in ME2.

and, from some time ago:

Following Liberty Prime to the final mission in Fallout 3.

Heck yeah. When I lose a minigame, I have a tendency to tie up my opponent and leave them in a the desert.

Last night when I was playing Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded. It was pretty boring at first, I wasn't a huge fan of the first KH DS game and this one was similar to that one at first. That was until at the end of the Wonderland stage the game switched to a rail-shooting section with Panzer Dragoon style gameplay and at in the Olympus stage the game made combat into a Final Fantasy style turn based game with the timed button presses from The Legend of Dragoon. It made my day so much more entertaining.

Last night I played NCAA 2011 (Football) for the first time. It was the best first impression a game has ever left on me. The game just handles so damn smoothly, and all of the minor additions are incredible. I still need to dig into the Dynasty/Career modes to see if it lasts, but I think it will.

NCAA 2006 may just be losing it's place as my favorite football game.

I came back from college for a short break and towards the end i got out my ps2 (which i don't have in my dorm) and put in Kingdom Hearts 2.

as i ran though hollow bastion pwning heartless after heartless, culminating in the 1k killing spree of awsome.

the fluidity of the combat and how quickly it came back to me made me smile and gleefully talk stuff to all the inanimate polygons.

It's only been out for one day but Littlebigplanet 2 made me incredibly happy when I first started playing it, I loved the first one and certainly this one made me love it more. Thank you Media Molecule for improving on the first game and not letting the community die out. But of course almost everybody abandoned the first one but hey, everything carried over at least...

Ironicly enough it was in a realistic game, Men of War(PC) a realistic RTS set during WW2, the main thing about it is that soldiers only take a round or two before dying and while tanks can totally fucking ruin your day, they can be taken out in one well placed hit with the right weapons.
Weapons also all have limited ammo, vehicles have limited fuel, and you can disable vehicles wityhout desrtoying them.

While it is gratifying to take out a Panzer with one precise hit, even more so is fighting tanks way above your league, armed with only the most basic of anti-tank weaponry, taking out the guns of each, killing the crews, and laughing in glee as you take those self same tanks and charge the enemy line with them, nothing compares.

Plus you play as the russians and germans during the campaigns, far too few WW2 games do that now.

Borderlands. Nothing beats the feeling of getting that new gun that just mows people down instantaneously.

ThriKreen got me NWN for my birfmas, and I've been thoroughly enjoying Deekin the Kobold.
Like, having-a-puppy-in-your-lap joy.
"Deekin would often reminisce about Tymofarrar [His white dragon master] - one story told to the hero during Hordes of the Underdark was that Tymofarrar occasionally enjoyed changing into human form, walking into Hilltop and eating pie. " -NWN Wiki
He's like Wrex from Mass Effect in that inexplicable, reptilian charm.
Bioware must just have a gift for making awesome lizard men.

That song in general gives me joy, so I guess this would apply to me too.

Oh, and the Sly Collection. They are just a bunch of really fun games.

It was in just cause 2. I think It was two days ago. I've been doing schoolwork since. I stole a military chopper, tied a soldier to it. Ascended and starting spinning. He was flying in circles around me insanely fast. I released the cable and he flew off into the stratosphere team rocket style. I was laughing at that for about 2 straight minutes.

Playing Five in Black Ops and actually being put in a lobby with toher people who knew what Jugger-nog is and what to do when the thief arrives. It's so refreashing to see people using strategy in Nazi Zombies, compared to the people who charge towards the thief for some reason I will never understand.

I've had lots of joyful moments but that was the most recent.
