First time I played God of War, was like when I was about 12 years or 13, got me a good smile on my face with the way Kratos ripped apart the monsters.
Also when I first played RE:4 (when I was about 13 years) some scary shit, but still got a smile on my face splattering the heads of zombies"looking" dudes. Only to know that a worm like thing jumps up from their neck xD

Probably the last time I played Metroid Prime. I fucking LOVE Phendrana Drifts.

Even with that said, I want to talk about another experience I had in GTA4. For this one mission, I find myself in need to hijack a helicopter. This was my second attempt, since I fudged up my landing the first time. So there I am, chasing it in a Banshee, having the time of my life. When I get to the landing bad I run over a few guards and gun down the rest, jump in, fly away and avoid the randomly generated guard. When I reach maximum altitude, "1975" by the Smashing Pumpkins comes on the radio. Holy poo did it sync up perfectly. I don't know why that brought me so much joy, but it did. Then, when I got to the airport, I destroyed the tail and crashed landing and had to start all over again.
A perfect moment RUINED by [typically] shitty helicopter controls.

Co-op Lost Planet 2 Campaign- BEST CAMPAIGN EVER....PERIOD..

Also, say what you like about the game, Final Fantasy 13 gives me a tingle of joy whenever I chain together a perfect combo of attack, stagger, kill in one fluid motion

Why, just a few short minutes ago when I was playing G Generation Cross Drive. I had just acquired the Gundam X and the BGM switched to "Dreams," the first opening theme. That made me smile ^_^

A couple of hours ago, won a tough 5v5 match in League of Legends with some people from here and a friend of mine. Both of us were premade and those are always pressure filled but joyful when winning.

I think you should always experience joy when gaming. That's kind of the point, isn't it? I mean, if you're not enjoying what you're doing, you should probably do something else with your free time.

That said, I take the meaning to be the last time I was in awe or felt extreme happiness from playing a video game. If that's the case, then the most recent would be beating Portal a few months ago. If you've never done it, there's no sweeter feeling in gaming, in my opinion.

Alpha Protocol. Boss fight against
Konstantin Brayko. I giggled like a maniac during that whole scene.

Oh and making people angry in COD by causing them to have cheap deaths :p.

Hmm...

I think I'd have to go with the ending of Flower. I found it really, REALLY uplifting. Gave a nice warm fuzzy glow for about 5 minutes afterwards.

Ratchet and Clank 3

It has a gun that creates miniature black holes that suck in enemies.
Enough said.

Pure joy? That's a very strong emotion for a game to bring out (if only because I reserve the word "joy" for transcendent bliss, the kind of feeling you get from a true emotionally powerful experience.) I can count very few cases:

- Final Fantasy VI, when
Celes, after her attempted suicide, wakes up on the beach to find the bird wearing Locke's bandana. Just...wow. Total empathy with a character rediscovering her will to live. Masterful piece of game writing, I wish more games could do this.
- Final Fantasy IX, the ending. Since I didn't have the Internet to spoil it for me, the game completely and utterly hooked me for the twist. And the little shrug of the shoulders? MADE OF WIN.
- Oblivion, the climax in the Temple of the One. By itself, completely redeemed the game's otherwise shallow, cliched story with an amazing visual. The James Cameron movie of games, in a good way.
- Final Fantasy Tactics A2. I knew the name "Mr. Rendell" sounded familiar...then at the end it dawned on me why. As the credits rolled, I watched...astounded at the masterful writing I had just witnessed...and when people ask why I say this is the best game ever made for a handheld, I say "Play the first game. Then play the second game all the way through and watch the ending."

Probably when GTA4 first came out.

It was like "Woooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah"

That, or Counter Strike Source.

Or Forza 2/3

When I tried the Psychonauts demo.
I was just sent back to the old days of Crash Bandicoot, Jak & Daxter and all those other epic platformers. Y'know, when games weren't always about realism and being competitive, but when they were about that thing... Oh, right, fun.

Stupid sister Steam gifting it to me but then not allowing me to play it until my birthday so now it's sitting there installed just taunting me...
Seconded on Psychonauts.

Last night I went into the mind of a giant mutated lungfish...to find myself stomping around as a Godzilla-sized version of myself in a city populated by talking fish. It's moments like these that make gaming worthwhile.
