What was the worst form of Rage Quit you ever either witnessed or have done yourself?

I had gotten to the fight with Radic in Kill Zone 2 before they had modified the aiming and sights and after about my 9th try getting killed by henchmen instead of Raddic himself, I totally lost it, ejected the game, broke it completely in half, and hockey shot the plastic bits and pieces down a long hallway.

I was actually quite happy after I did it and swore I'd never touch the game again. ( Eventually I beat it waaaay later on). When I think about it now, it was pretty stupid and childish but at the time it felt like an ultimate stress reliever.

There was a time earlier before that as wee teenager when I was playing X-Wing Simulator, I had just reached the rank of Captain --- the very next blasted mission, I had taken out an attack shuttle but the resulting blast crashed into me and killed me to --- resulting in my death and all of my points zeroing out ( Yes, you could very well die, have your rank taken away, and then stuck to finish the game with all of these medals as a lowly Flight Officer). I was so mad I pitched my controller at the monitor, broke the flight stick and then got my butt handed to me by my mother whom was infuriated that I was howling and ranting in the first place.

Worse one I had witnessed?

These two guys were in the barracks playing Mortal Combat Deadly Alliance and one dude kept screwing up attempting to perform the hard combinations while the other guy was just fighting in the generic moves and kicking his butt. He finally was able to do a combo but was rebuffed and after the 5th match, if memory serves me right, one guy was playing as Kano and did one of those BS moves where he simply shot the other opponent and won. Well that was the last draw --- dude threw the ps2 controller at the ps2, kicked the TV over, then turned a civil game into real mortal combat, resulting in one of the guys to loosing a tooth from a hard left hook.

Hm, I really don't rage much...well except back in the days of WoW raiding...

Well, there was that one time playing Warzone 2100 during the mission when the Nexus had a virus in your systems; because your anti-virus research was so slow it gave the ai lots of chances to take over the worst possible vehicle/buildings. It was a few hours before I finally beat that mission; sadly those hours were separated by days since I snapped the cd in half and had to buy a new copy. I remember being thoroughly lectured by my girl about "games" and not to take it so seriously.

Luckily I am older and more mature now and not prone to such outlandish displays....well, except maybe for zoo locks.

I don't generally rage-quit, but I do rage...a lot.

I've actually had the police around to my house because they thought I was abusing someone.
It usually happens with racing games, especially those that rely on rubberbanding.

The last time I raged profusely was Assassin's Creed 2 though. But I won't go there.

A buddy once decided that he didn't want to play Pro Evo against me anymore. He announced this by responding to my most recent goal with a swinging sucker punch to the side of my head.

He got...a little too involved...when we played that game.

I was at a halo 3 lan party, playing a zombies custom game involving driving vehicles around a thin circular path suspended over a kill zone while the zombie snipes you (In the Sandbox skyzone). All of us picked mongooses except one guy, who hung back in a chopper before using his cannons to knock all of us off simultaneously.
One player took it the wrong way a little and jumped clean out of his seat onto the betrayer and began throttling him. Everyone else was too busy laughing to do anything to help.

Probably the end of this.

If it has to be something you personally witnessed, probably the temper tantrum I had when I was like 5 trying to beat Super Mario Land and Game Over'd to Tatanga after much frustration in world 4. Got scolded and banned from playing any games for a week after, but it was a deserved punishment. I'd rather have done that than the kind of rage quits older people seem to have in an age where games or consoles can be permanently destroyed with just a bit of effort. When I get mad now, I just think back to Tatanga and the bite marks on my Game Boy cartridge and I laugh.

I haven't ever quit a game due to frustration, although I have once or twice resorted to cheats (Binding of Isaac...you bastard).

However I can get very short tempered in multiplayer games when someone decides to be obnoxious in which case I tend to retaliate.

More than once in WoW I've responded to someone being a jerk by /dancing as the tank until they were kicked or I was (and since I'm the tank it's usually not me ^_^). Petty - sure. Gratifying - immensely.

I once had some 12 year old scream at the top of his lungs as he disconnected. There was also a dude who spoke of smashing his copy of Call of Duty. Toss up between them, I think.

Aside from the kids playing strategic FPSes like COD and generally being kids, I've never really witnessed much rage. And I don't tend to rage all too much.

But without a doubt the worst one that I've ever heard was on TF2. The buildup was fairly typical: dude kept getting killed, but it was by different members of the opposing team every time, so why he thought he was getting trolled, if he did, was beyond me. There was screaming, shouting, something getting broken - which was likely his keyboard, and he didn't move for about five minutes after that.

Someone came in, a rather violent argument happened, and someone told him to calm down.

Then he snapped.

Literal destruction happened, and most players didn't say a word. Most played on, but some hid in corners or in the restock room to listen to the ongoing wreckage without the bothersome enumberance of playing the game they came to play. There's something both amusing yet utterly horrifying about a grown man brought down to a destructive child's level, kind of like a car accident, or finding a dying animal outside your door. Oh no; this was far more than a TF2 match.

Then he called us all "shit niggers" and then disconnected.

I miss old Game Grumps so much...

OT: Mine is weird. Someone else raged, I quit. I was playing TF2, and this guy on my team kept getting dominated by some guy on the red team. He started talking about all the horrible ways he wanted red guy's mother abused and killed. It went on for ten minutes, and he wasn't letting up, so I started a vote kick. It was immediately shot down, and he counter-votekicked me, which was almost unanimous. Whatever. I don't want to play with people who abide by such behavior anyway. >:[

Funny thing is, I play with smooth aiming off. Never been able to finish the last chapter on easy but somehow I completed it in one go on medium. Now going for hard (although I'll be restarting my hard run since I haven't played in awhile).

Worst ragequit I can think of? Myself, playing Halo 3's 'Cortana' level. That level is horrible I tell you! Horrible! The Halo 3 disc ended up in the bin due to that awfull level.

During the Battlezone 2 multiplayer it was common knowledge that when the host of a game got beaten too badly they would quit causing a disconnect for everybody. Worst where the sessions with multiple groups as it was nigh impossible to actually finish without a game ending rage quit.

Good times, good times.

Probably more recently when I'm playing Tf2 and I end up playing with a completely incompetent shit team that never seems to push the opposite team if at all and in turn I can't do anything due to dying constantly when I'm against more than 3 people, rest of the team dies, we lose, rinse and repeat until I snap and just quit the entire game.

I just can't stand being thrown into games with shit teams, even the "team scramble" on TF2 hadn't fixed my teams for multiple games that I just have to leave and hope to find another server with more decent players.

Dark Souls - after dying for the umpteenth time to the crawling "two-shot-death" skeletons in Tomb of The Giants I got pissed off so much I tossed my controller at full force on the floor. Since there was nothing left of the said controller, I quit the game, still pissed off.

Almost forgot about my brother's best rage quit, which I believe was brought upon him by Counter-Strike about five years back. He punched a hole in the wall of his room. Punched a hole. I swear this is true- we still have a white spot of wall where it was patched up.

Everyone touts CS as the mature alternative to Battlefield/CoD, but apparently they all have the same hit detection/lag problems.

I don't think I've ever rage-quit. If I'm not having fun, I leave, but it's never been done in anger. I take a pretty laid back approach to my gaming in that I fully acknowledge that it's just a hobby.

I play a lot of Call of Duty multiplayer, or at least, I used to. Every so often I'll play an hour or two, but it's become fairly infrequent. In CoD:MW3 I maintain a 3.2 kill-to-death ratio playing nothing but TDM. Most people I encounter in lobbies are between .50 and 1.0, and they almost always just assume that I clearly must be cheating or hacking. No, I just didn't give up when I encountered people that played better than me. I didn't resort to raging and throwing hackusations - I simply watched them. I watched the kill-cams to see what I did wrong, and how they were able to take advantage of that mistake. I watched replays, to see if I could learn anything from them. I used situations that would make other players rage-quit to make myself a better player, so that now I'm the one on the other side making people rage quit.

That said, I've known people who had serious rage problems. I had a friend who put an X-Box controller through a wall because no one wanted to play the same multiplayer map as him in Halo 2, stormed out of the house, and started punching dents into the side of his car. All because we didn't want to play a map that we'd already just played three times in a row on his insistence.

I also had a friend who used to raid with me in World of Warcraft back when I took the game far too seriously. He was a damn good raider, but he always played drunk. This one time he got a little more drunk than usual because of a bad day at work, and started screaming at people in Ventrilo because something fairly insignificant didn't go his way. I wasn't around at the time, but I got a text from a guildmate to talk to him (since I knew him in real life). I gave him a phone call, and he was still in full-blown ragemode. I might have botched my attempt at peacekeeping, because he ended up chucking his very expensive phone at a wall rather than hanging up. We joke about it now, him laughing that he never liked that phone anyway, and that it was something that the phone did that pissed him off enough to chuck it at a wall and not something I said. He told me that after the phone hit the wall, he proceeded to grind it to dust with a mallet.

I don't play most sports games aside from Madden every now and again and NHL because I love hockey. But Basketball is probably one of the games I enjoy the least. So when I was challenged to a game by a friend, I reluctantly accepted and proceeded to whip this guy's butt. Score was like 60-32 at the half when my friend launched his controller into his 360, broke the faceplate, power button, controller and bent the frame inward. It never turned on again.
I think it was karma for the mad shit the dude talked prior to the game. I warned him that while I may not like sports games I was pretty good at NBA Jam back in the day... and apparently that had a contributing factor to me beating the tar out of him. With the LA Clippers.
