She's a bit bland, her character arc was completely needless and contrived(Although River Song is partly to blame for that for obvious reasons) and she's incredibly unlikeable, particularly when she abandoned her husband-to-be and tried to screw The Doctor in Series 5.

I loved Amy as a companion, she was funny and interesting. I am interested in how well the new companion will do, but at least she can't be worse than Rose, she was the most annoying, insufferable part of New Who.

but none compare to Capt. Jack Harkness. Seriously, bring him the fuck back Moffat! The dynamic between him and the Doctor was just perfect.
I could imagine it happening for the 50th anniversary. Meta-Crisis Ten, Eleven, and Rory berating him for flirting with Amy. I'm envisioning three simultaneous "Stop it!" exclamations at the very least.
Same, only the way I envision it Amy ends up having to be physically restrained because Jack won't stop flirting with Rory.

Have no animosity for Amelia Pond. She is just there.

I hate the fact that she seems more important than the Doctor in this story arc. All the enemies want to get to the Doctor through her.

Sure Donna Noble had the same problems, but that was kind of the point with her. She is important to the Universe. I also like River in her first appearance, which was with Donna. She did not become Deus Ex Machina.

Actually, I just remembered Torchwood: Children of Earth. Jack was extremely distraught over
Ianto's death
and he still seemed pretty disturbed by it in The End of Time, before he got the note from the Doctor.[footnote]I haven't seen Miracle Day yet, so I don't know if he managed to recuperate.[/footnote] I'd hate for him to be more serious if he came back, but for continuity's sake, I think that's what's going to happen.

It's not like Jack won't make an appearance during the anniversary, either. John Barrowman has expressed a deep desire to be a part of the show's 50th, so there's no two ways around that. I just hope that Moffat and the rest of the crew figure out a way to make his character fit with our expectations while still acknowledging past events.

Apart from all the unresolved sexual tension going on between her and the Doctor, i dont really have a problem with her.

That said, shes had 2 seasons on the show, its about time for a replacement.

She's interesting in terms of the Doctor's psyche by this point. We can learn through Amy the Eleventh Doctor's motivations. In contrast to the other doctor's motivations, Nine's peace at all costs but no sacrifices and Ten's the order will be kept by any means necessary up to including sacrificing everything else, Eleven's main motivation seems to be keeping Amy and Rory alive at all costs, universe be damned.

This gives us a very valuable insight:

The Ninth behaved as he did because he had just emerged from the horrors of the timewar where he had personally condemmed two races to extinction and caused countless other tragedies through ripple effects. He appears to be suffering from a form of PTSD and will not let anyone else get hurt ifhe can help it, he also sues for peace every chance he gets. The one person he kills (that I can remember) is Cassandra and he does it as a cool headed judgement for her crimes.

The Tenth behaved as if he had become a bit more jaded. The order was kept by any means necessary and he behaves a bit more like a time travelling vigilante. As he says he sees things that will be, things that might be and things that must not be. He considers this his personal duty and woe betide anyone who runs counter to this. I actually lost count of how many times he carried out judgement.

The Eleventh, however, ...the impression I personally get from him is that he is old, he's spent his life fighting and now he's almost ready to die. He almost seems to display the thought "Why can't I have nice things?". As Ten he has lost many friends and done some terrible things and he is tired. Along comes Amy, this girl who believes in him though he constantly let her down who sees things he takes for granted, and he seems to resolve to himself that his duty is to protect her and those she loves. I think another lost companion might actually break his spirit. Most of the episodes seem to revolve around one of them dying (9 times out of 10 it's Rory) and the Doctor going "Oh, hell no" and going to extreme lengths to bring them back.

That's what we learn from Amy.

Unfortunately her arc is at a close, loathe as I am to say goodbye to two such good looking people (Amy and Rory) who drew attention away from some of the poorer episodes.

I might get a lot of problems with certain people for saying that but I didn't like the whole Moffat taking over in general. Blink was absolutely mindblowing and scary, same for the Library double episode with River, that made her look like an interesting and fun yet mysterious character. Now that Moffat got into consistently writing episode after episode I just find that the show as a whole has gone a bit down. The Doctor is still charmingly crazy, again there's great episodes but the whole Amy-Rory-River thing I just can't stand anymore.
Kid Amy was good but I absolutely loath the grown character. She's needlessly sexy, at times blatantly stupid, after a few days with the doctor she completely disregards getting married the next day and tries to seduce him...
While I didn't find it necessary to introduce the "love problem" with Martha I actually thought it was well dealt with over the season. Amy just starts off too direct and with a complete disregard for her fiancee.

As for the secondaries: Rory is awesome if inconsistent, Mickey was ok, River was a good idea but ultimately overused... but none compare to Capt. Jack Harkness. Seriously, bring him the fuck back Moffat! The dynamic between him and the Doctor was just perfect.
I'm with you on that. Since The Sound of Drums I've always been looking forward to another Cpt. Jack episode, though I am not sure it'd still be that good with Eleven.
What I really would have liked was having David joining Torchwood for a story arch. But that's now void too.

I like amy and I think that her, Rory, and the Doctor have a lot of interpersonal tension which I always love to see (same in House, the medicine was boring as hell, but the character relations were good). Also she is the most attractive companion to date so she gets my vote.

I personally would have preferred if Amy had been a companion to the previous doctor (minus Rory).

Hmm. I think I'll make this easier by listing my opinions of each companion.

She gets points for killing Satan and essentially becoming Dr. Manhattan at one point, but honestly? I don't see why everyone likes her so much. She's usually kind of annoying, mouthing off to anyone who isn't the Doctor in this really cheery way. It's a bit insulting. Her relationship with the Doctor works on a couple of levels I suppose, but I guess since I didn't really like Rose in the first place, I didn't quite buy into it as much as Rose's fans. David Tennant sold the hell out it, though.

Pretty sure the only reason people hate her is because she's not Rose. Personally, I think Martha was quite an improvement. Her background was more interesting to me, though I will say that her infatuation with the Doctor got quite old very fast. Still, she eventually became (more or less) Gordon Freeman, so that was pretty awesome. All-in-all though, she wasn't that different from Rose, except she was less cheery and annoying. And that's enough for me.

Great relationship with the Doctor. Having a pair of really good friends who happen to be of the opposite sex almost NEVER happens on TV, and I really like that dynamic MUCH more then Rose's or Martha's. I also liked how she didn't take any shit from people. Her attitude made her stand out as a companion, in a good way. Unfortunately, Catherine Tate is an ENORMOUS over actor, and it was often hard to take Donna seriously. She had a lot of little quirks in the way she talked that just annoyed the hell out of me. Although her send-off is still one of the saddest moments of the show, ever. Oh, and she gets points for having a grandfather as cool as Wilf.

I'm probably biased about this one because, let's be honest, Karen Gillian is AMAZINGLY hot. Ignoring that though (if you can) Amy has a good mix of Rose and Martha's curiosity and brains, and Donna's courage and attitude. I also admire her character for being very sexual, without letting it be her defining characteristic. You don't really see that kind of thing too often these days. I actually like Rory, too. He brings a kind of skepticism to the show that the Doctor plays of off very well, both when it's justified and when it's not. He keeps Amy's over-the-top worship of the Doctor in check, and he's one of the few people who really understands the Doctor's deeper flaws. I didn't like how they kept pretending to have a love-triangle when none existed, but I suppose it's better then ACTUALLY having a love triangle, like with Rose.

Aaaaaand I guess that about does it. If I had to pick a favorite, it would probably be Martha or Amy. (*raises flame shield*)
