Final Fantasy VIII - for gameplay and story. The first time I played this game, I hated it. I couldn't get past the graphics and hated the turn-based battle system. It was a few years before I picked the game up from my shelf and gave it a second chance. But I'm extremely glad I did. It wasn't long before the story drew me in, and I become surprisingly fond of the battle system too. It's not the best, but the fact enemies level up with your characters works extremely well.
Final Fantasy X - for its story, music, and atmosphere. This was the game which drew me into the Final Fantasy series, so it will always have a special place in my heart. The relationship between Yuna and Tidus also led to many music videos, and an interest in video editing. However, I didn't enjoy the battle system; I found the sphere grid extremely frustrating.
Pokemon Crystal - for the adventure. This was the first Pokemon game I picked up. Having played Pokemon Yellow on a friend's console, I decided to buy the more recent version. This world of Pokemon drew me in immediately. I thought the graphics and aesthetics were incredible, and loved the 2nd gen starters. I still think the battle system is one of the best turn-based systems available; the use of elements and elemental weaknesses makes it more interactive and less tedious.
