Most excellent! To make this an even bigger overkill how about pairing a Quadra Magic with another Restore Materia and using the W-Magic Materia?

As for what I would do, while it's tempting to plagiarize borrow Amnestic's idea, I would go for everything which would be ranged and have a good radius. Like for example, a flamethrower (though it could be dangerous to me as well) or a flak cannon, or an automatic weapon like a minigun, etc.

As I say everytime a thread like this comes up:

1) M1 carbine
2) Pistol grip 12 gauge pump action shotgun'
3) HK USP Elite (.45 ACP)
4) Machete
1) Why? Ammo for the M1 carbine is not very plentiful and logicically it is not as efficient. If you live in America then an SKS or AK47 variant (semi-auto of course) make far more sense considering how plentiful 7.62x39mm ammo is and how superior it is to .30 Carbine ammo.

2) Pistol grip? From the shotgun shooting I have done WITH a stock I'd say even experienced shooters would have a hard time hitting the broad side of a barn without having the weapon well supported against their shoulder. It also spoils your rate of fire.

3) Those pistols are SO expensive and rare too. Plus unless you are VERY experienced .45 ACP will likely be way too powerful for such a light pistol and the .45 double stack means it's hard to hold even with large hands.
Far more sensible option IHMO would be the Glock 17 in 9x19mm. Reliable as a hammer and no nonsense to operate, the 9mm is plentiful but most importantly it is controllable to get those valuable headshots at range and with speed.
Another option would be a CZ pistol in 9mm. They are heavier (1.12kg vs 0.625kg) but that really helps absorb the recoil and combined with the very light single action triggers allows them to be extremely accurate and controllable. Most pistol inaccuracy comes from the grip shifting as a stiff trigger is pulled and from over-reaction to the sharp recoil.
The so called "father of modern pistol shooting" Jeff Cooper himself heavily recommends the CZ 9mm pistol (after the venerable M1911).

4) If you are fighting a zombie at close quarters why would you want a weapon that sprays so much infected blood everywhere?
Why not a bludgeoning weapon like a club?

If I had to have a bladed weapon it would be a spear, keep them back and employ Bronze age fighting techniques (a la 300) that are most effective against an unsophisticated enemy.

I wonder how many people have actually held the weapons they're supposedly going to be using against the zombie threat.

uhh, any pole, rod, or such. from small lampposts shaped into spears to javelins to railroad spikes on walking sticks... hell, i'd even settle for jamming a cast iron weight lifting bar through the eye socket of an unsuspecting zombie. and btw, just went to see mastadon and dethklok at the eagle's ballroom the other day, it was AWESOME! and i gotta agree with the guy who said cricket bats... they're practically MADE for beating the shit out of whatever. i mean cmon, they're hard as hell, flat so you can swing em faster than baseball bats, and they're just beast.

Something with high accuracy, Headshots for kills. An automatic for limbs, to slow them, if I need to get away quickly. oh and an armoured van with a plow or something on it. =P

No melee weapons, what if all the zombie blood infects you? Easier to avoid bites than an explosion of blood. Also explosions are out, they'll just attract more. D=

I would use a .22 hornet for shots up to a mile. (The round can go through a cow skull, so I'm pretty sure it can go through a half decayed dead guys skull.) Then I'd use a suppressed MP5 for close range. I'd also use two throwing sickles as a last resort weapon.

And I'd also bring a .357 mag.

I would personally use a M14 or a FN FAL. Both got extreme accuracy, 20 rounds and hard hitting 7.62 mm.

The "lobo" from the World War Z novel (I think that is what it was called).

It is sort of like a wedged shovel ax hybrid kind of tool. You would use it sorta like a spear to the forehead, except it wouldn't pierce and get stuck like a spear would.

I'd wear a thick leather coat, seriously have you ever tried biting through leather?
