As in every year, a lot of great games are released and there are a lot of games that don't meet our expectations no matter how low or high we set them.

What were the most dissapointing games of 2009 to you and explain why?

Here are my picks:

ARMA II:
It's a very well made military, tactical action game but it was bogged down by a terrible interface and the game is very buggy which nearly killed the game experiance.

Halo Wars:
Ensemble Studios last games ends with a whimper, the game tries to do to console RTS as the original Halo did for console FPS but it fails miserably. Well the game is not bad {As most people make it out to be} as the game's controls are very well done for a console RTS, the story was decent, the cinematics are stunning, and the missions are well contructed. However the core game mechanics are extremely shallow and unites have serious balance issues, especially in the multiplayer where a fully upgraded Arbiter can destroy a large infantry and strucures by itself.

Lord of the Rings Conquest:
A novel idea that's poorly executed, the combat is clunky and extremely unbalanced.

The Conduit:
A by the numbers and sub-par FPS with dull level design and ugly visuals. It was hyped up as the Wii's first great first-person shooter, like it was going to be Nintendo's answer to Halo but it ended in the assembly line of generic first-person shooters. While the game is that the controls are surprisingly good controls for the Wii, but that's the only thing going for it.

The King of Fighters XII & Tekken 6:
While the fighting is razor sharp as usual in KOF fashion but it has the smallest character roster in the series {No Mai? WTF?!}, lack of any game modes, and sloppy online. Tekken 6 was too much of the same thing, while the fighting is still good the scenerio campaign and online mulitplayer is terrible.

Madworld:
The game was pretty good but the game was too short and wasn't very satisfied by the end. By the time I was pumped out to really enjoy Madworld the game ended.

Tony Hawk Ride:
Played it in a friends house and experianced the sheer horror of the game, even my friend loathed purchasing it. The concept behind the skateboard peripheral is great but the controller works horribly and the game itself is terrible with a lack of game modes and a boatload of bugs.

The Chronicles of Riddick Assault on Dark Athena:
It's a good game but it's no where near as good as Escape from Butcher Bay. I waited long time for a sequel hoping that it would surpass the original but I was very dissapointed.

While I wasn't really anticipating it at all, Lord Of The Rings: Conquest was surprisingly blah. It seemed like a really good idea and while the game wasn't terrible, it was nothing compared to it's Star Wars cousin. Rest in peace Pandemic, we'll always remember you for your awesome games.

Left for Dead 2: The story is much more.....Present, I guess is the word, but the characters are less interesting than L4D's Survivors. That, and I hate Jockeys, but they're fun to play as, so that's acceptable.

I haven't played their last game The Saboteur, but I heard it wasn't great.

Saboteur is awesome, just dont go into it thinking its stealth only game. Think of a mix of GTA and assassins creed in ww2 paris with a dirty speaking irish man....I like it.

The only games I've bought this year were ones I've loved; Borderlands, Assassin's Creed II and Modern Warfare 2, so none!

However, prepare for 99999999 MW2 posts.

Post No. 1:

It was alright. Dual Models take the piss. Fake claims of realism. Maybe though my expectations were set to high.

Ratchet & Clank: a Crack In Time.

I'm a big fan of the series, but I already had a few issues with Tools of Destruction and Crack In Time was even worse.

Remember when they Infinity Ward promised a longer single-player campgaign and non-scripted A.I., ha ha ha that never happened.

You kidding me? The game was superior to Future Tools of Destruction in every way and it's arguably the best game in the series since Going Commando.

MW2. No wait, I expected a half-arsed piece of console humping and that's what I got.

Saboteur. The setting is great and the visual style engaging, but the game itself is a little... flat. A shame.

Sims 3. I had been told that there were now about three seconds to a minute, and the need bars weren't so fast-falling.

I was lied to.

Spore Wait, that doesn't count.

I actually haven't bought to many new games this year, and the ones I did buy I found to be satisfying. The only one that really disappointed me was Osmos [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.161590], but I did only pay 2.50$ for it.

I really don't see how they are less interesting. The amount of dialogue spoken by the Left 4 Dead cast is paltry when compared to that of Left 4 Dead 2. I'm guessing people just liked the originals more because they were reliable sterotypes, so they didn't need as much character development.

ODST, and I know these ones are a bit late but Force Unleashed sucked, as did Mirror's Edge.
Halo 3 ODST had a great single-player and story that 's far superior than Halo 3's single-player and story, but the campaign was too short and the game was a bit overpriced.

Madworld. I thought the fun would hold up longer, but after the halloween level (with the crazy skeleton guy) it just became more and more bland to me. Although the final fight with the Black Baron was pretty cool.

Yeah, no, I don't know.

The humor was a lot better I'll give you that. But I feel Insomniac tried to do to much, and again, tried to be to serious with the story.
I also thought the enemies were rather boring. I loved the goldfish piloted killbots from ToD. They had such character and it was wonderful to destroy them see the "OH FUCK" look on their face as they lay helplessly on the ground as you pointed the Fusion Cannon (wich was missing in CIT) in their face.

I know they went for more of a serious story, but in the end nothing really gets resolved and everything kinda resorts to a status quo.
I'm not saying it's a bad game, I just expected it to really bring something new or atleast return to it's former glory. And I don't really feel it's accomplished that.
