I remember my Chemistry teacher walking in at the beginning of fourth period when I was in year 9 and saying that two planes had flown into the World Trade Centre towers. We thought it was one of those tests like the ones where two trains leave place X heading for Y and we were going to have to calculate velocity or force or something. Then it turned out not to be.

I remember it being all over the news but it didn't have a lot of impact because I don't think I'd never heard of the World Trade Centre before and it was just 'somewhere in America'. I don't remember feeling anything, really, any more than I remember feeling anything about the war in Bosnia or terrorist attacks by the IRA or any of the other deaths reported on the news. It was people dying overseas and it was all a bit detached. I don't really remember the London bombings either, except that I had a friend whose mother had been in London that day but had come home safely after a bit of a delay.

I was in the 6th grade and I first found out during lunch when the Prinicpal came in and told us their was an attack on New York City. We weren't let out early, so I didn't think it was a big deal, but when I got home I found out it was much worse than I could ever imagine...

And it was even more jarring because of the fact that I had been on a field trip to Ellis Island/The Statue of Liberty the year before, and my mom (who had come with me) had taken a photo of the skyline...

I was in class, 3rd or 4th grade I think, and I really didn't find out until after school.

Oh, and I had to stay home alone with my brother for 5 days because my parents were in Mexico.

My cousin on the other hand, lived in an Apartment in New York and had a nervous breakdown.

I was in seventh grade in band class. My teacher didn't tell us anything, but instead said to go up to the auditorium for an announcement. Our house counselor then stood up and told us what had happened. I think I was too shocked to fully understand it. It didn't really hit me until a few weeks later what had happened.

I remember I'd just finished playing Gran Turismo 3, driving a Z06 around Laguna Seca, then I turned the news on and saw what happened, watched for a few hours then went to bed. It happened at like 11pm local time.

I think I was in 2nd grade. I honestly have no recollection of what I did that day, the first time I actually noticed people strafing over the event was 1 year later.

I was 10 years old when my mom came and woke me up, I made it in time to see the second plane hit the tower... live, I remember it so vividly...

I was in first grade and I remember the teacher panicking and acting like nothing was wrong, I didn't learn what had happened until I got home.

6th grade. Just sitting there, everyone starts panicking and the teacher turns on the news. People started crying and screaming and such. I just said "That sucks.", finished my work and went to sleep. I didn't care, and I still don't. I don't know why people get in such an uproar over this sort of thing.
Oh yeah, I suppose the deaths of thousands of people in a capital city and the complete destruction of two major landmarks isn't really a big thing. I can see why you think that.

But from what I hear you sound like a total badass, just doing your work and going to sleep like that? Man, is your name Doom Guy?

I was about 9-10, and I was at home when my friend told me to turn on the news, I didn't really understand the extent of the event until I was older.

I was watching everyone go batshit nuts at my school. I was too young to process what was going on, but to say the least: When I found out, I coulden't say I blamed them.
Pretty much the same thing here.

I don't know whether to laugh or call you an idiot. Sarcasm is hard on the internet.
I was in 7th grade and just heard what little my band director knew. Later that day I had an orthodontist appointment, and so when my mom picked me up, she told me more details and we listened to the radio on the way there.

I was in 1st grade, I could barely process what happened. I didn't really know what happened at all, and I think I was at school and teachers got really sad, or something. I can't remember. It makes me feel non American.

Second grade. Went home and my mom was watching the news. I watched for all of a minute, and went off to do kid things. I really didn't care at all.

Buying ice cream coming back from school. The bloke at the counter was like "You watch the news?"

I was dressed in my school uniform. Did he really think I'd seen the fucking news yet?
