I was in grade 4, just leaving for school when my mom was like "oh my god!" and repeated that several times. I looked, saw some shaky footage of an explosion and left for school... I didn't want to be late for the fourth day of school. My mom stopped me and explained to me what had happened. I got the day off school, and of course, being a little guy, that was what stuck out most about the day.

Surprisingly, I swear my mother was more traumatized by that than the passing of her own father which happened the year before. This is kinda weird, but my first thought when I saw my mom crying that day was that my grandmother had died too. Logically, I guess it makes sense, 1 life against 3000, but emotions are rarely logical.

We must have gotten the report at about nine in the morning in Portland. I was awoken by the sound of the radio and my dad was sitting in the living room with an incredulous expression on his face. I was eight years old, and being an eight-year-old boy, my brain really just processed the HOLY CRAP A FAMOUS BUILDING BLEW UP side of the story. I was too young and lived too far away to feel much sympathy at that point.

I was 5 years old at the time, Naturally I don't really remember but my mother never forgot what I did. We both woke up early that morning (Strange) and she said that almost instinctively I walked right up to the television in our kitchen and turned it on, straight onto a news station covering the tragedy. She reminds me with a puzzled look on her face almost every anniversary of it (Mind you we live in Australia). Was there anyone here who was in NYC when it happened, I'd love to know.

I was in Year 4, so I was 8 years old, completly oblivious as to what had happened. In fact, I only found out about what happened until the 12th.

It happened about 2am or so Sydney time I think and for once I wasn't on the internet instead of studying, so I didn't find out until about 8 hours later. My mother found out about it when she left for work that morning and woke me up when she called me to tell me.

Seeing how I live in Australia, I was asleep when it actually happened. But I remember waking up (was seven years old at the time) and being able to hear the TV from my bedroom. I was listening to the news from my room about a plane crashing into a building or something and thought to myself, "wow this sounds interesting I hope it's still on when I get up" (I was taking advantage of the fact that my mum hadn't come to tell me to get out of bed yet). I finally got up and saw what had happened (because every channel replayed the same news segments all day long), didn't realise the depth of what had happened, argued with my sister who had turned 12 on that day over something stupid and went to school. I also remember being rather annoyed when I got out of bed as well because there wasn't any Dragon Ball Z on.

I was sleeping... When I woke up I went to school and went about my daily routine.

Not exactly brain burning... It didn't really affect most of Australia all that much... Sure the whole world of terror thing and fallout of the events hit hard, but the event itself... Not all that much.

I was in middle school, 8th year. I was sitting in history class when the teacher received a call from his wife at home. He turned on the TV that every classroom had in the corner, and we watched the news only a few minutes after the first plane hit. We were watching when the second plane hit the other tower. The principle came over the intercom and told all the teachers to turn on the televisions, and from class to class we watched it all unfold. The most gruesome part for me was seeing the footage of people jumping out of the buildings to their death.

Then two months later both my math teacher and my chemistry teacher left for war, so we had to have completely different teachers, which knew nearly nothing of the subject teach for the year.

I was in school, laughing at all of the people jumping out of the windows.
You can go ahead and call me a bad person, but I found it hilarious.
I didn't understand why everyone was crying and getting all scared.
A building complex in a different state was attacked, and people you most likely didn't know or ever would know died.
My hearts went out to the families, but that's all.

This pretty much sums up how I see 9/11:

Not to flame, but if I ever were to meet the person who made that picture in the street, I would floor him/her. Or better yet in a building, that way I can make them do their own little impersonation of the man.

I was at home, then I got a call from my mom saying that some planes had crashed into the world trade center. I turned on the tv looking for news reports and didn't feel particularly surprised at all (it was bound to happen sooner or later)...

I was calmly staring at the TV in my English class after the teacher turned it on. Everyone around me was freaking out about what happened but I just kinda sat there. *Shrug.*
