And that's not what I am suggesting. I am saying why are you trashing a game for being Duke Nukem when what you were praising about it was how Duke Nukem like it is.

I wanted Duke Nukem to be a little like Bulletstorm or Vanquish, two games that are insanely over-the-top shooters that to some extent, discourage the use of cover while encouraging combo kills and general badassery. I never expected Duke to have a compelling story; hell, the aforementioned games have shit stories, but their gameplay more than make up for it. Duke moves like molasses moving uphill against freezing wind, shoots like a drunkard, his ego bruises like a hemophiliac and takes just as long to recover, and the one-liners are just plain stupid.

No one remembers that Duke Nukem 3D, at the time, was just a generic FPS incorporating most of the modern FPS mechanics of that era - except with gratuitous sophomoric "humor".

And so, they complain when Duke Nukem Forever is just a generic FPS incorporating most of the modern FPS mechanics of this era - except with gratuitous sophomoric "humor".

After seeing how everyone is devastated over the result of Duke Nukem: Forever, I am extremely confused. The very editor of this site, Russ Pitts, made a review listing things that he would like about the new Duke Nukem Game if he was 12. Well. I know he is probably in his 30's or 40's, but 13 years ago, ALOT OF PEOPLE WERE 12-20!!!!

In terms of a Duke Nukem game, Duke Nukem Forever hit a home run. It absolutely focuses on everything the Duke series is about! Why not look at the Duke Nukem Forever and take it for what it is..When the game was finally announced to be coming out no one though that it would have Metal Gear Solid's graphics, or narrative quality.... We were all shocked and amazed at how cool it is that you get to see naked girls and huge alien monsters getting blown up on a football field. Where has all that excitement gone? Old Age?

And to all the young people reviewing the game exactly the same way the pros do it just becuase they hate it, have some integrity and ask yourself if you had fun. Just becuase you parrot a review does not mean some mystical force will have someone give you a job on the escapist.

Good day!
Have you even played Duke Nukem 3D?
No one, and i mean no one, who was waiting for DNF was not doing so fro the story or complex gameplay. We wanted FUN, quick-paced, reckless shooter with interesting level design and silly yet usable weapons.

What we got?
Generic, cover based, slow paced, painfully linear boring shooter with overdone plot that seems to be more exposed than actual shooting. The game lacks pacing, the levels are straightforward without any reason to stray off the path, often even not allowing it or punishing you for trying, it has too many static gameplay elements like turret section or unskipable scripted events that prevent you from moving forward, enemies coming in packs of *gasp* one-two at a time, long periods where there is no shooting at all just moving from point A to point B through narrow paths, bad gun play that has no feel to it.. It's like they took everything that made DN3D enjoyable and changed it for everything that makes so many gamers go "meh" about current day shooters.

I think that this is an excellent testament to how far the FPS mainstream has fallen haha.

What, you mean like a Gears of War cover system, and the steretypical squad of wise cracking heroes?? "Shooting Mechanics" have changed over time a lot since the classic duke nukems.
Maybe THAT'S what they don't like.

Off topic: HORY CROW. CAPTCHA GONE WILD! We've gone to "SolveMedia" captcha, and now "wide berth" is literally dancing before my eyes!

It doesn't get much more clearer than this.

Duke Nukem became a product of the current generation FPS shooter. A "CoD Clone" if you will. The problem was that people were expecting an old school retro game with modern day mechanics. Lots of enemies, you're character moving way to fast, ridiculous guns and giant complex maps.

Also, it couldn't even do a CoD clone correctly. It failed at being a copy cat. It has nothing to do with hype. If anything, the hype helped it. It's just a terrible game.

I don't think you caught the sarcasm in this....... Go back and play Duke Nukem 3D. Compare it to today's standards and what you expect out of a shooter. a $70 shooter. Tell me how you like it. If you are being honest you will loathe it. You will like it becuase it is Duke Nukem, and that is what I am saying.

Ya he hit a home run with his forehead and then be became a drooling paraplegic, in politically correct terms known as the modern warfare soldier.

Actually, I started playing 3D for the first time last Friday (got it off Good Old Games for 6 bucks) and it's great. I have no nostalgia for the series whatsoever, but it's a damn fun game. Forever has none of the things that made 3D good.

No, I was expecting a straight up rehashing of Duke Nukem 3D with current technology, and so far as I've seen that's precisely what they've given. The problem comes in the fact that when Duke Nukem 3D was big I was in my mid to late teens, but I'm not now and I no longer find that shit funny which is why I haven't bought the game or even bothered to play the demo. It's juvenile and immature and I just couldn't be asked.

1 - Yes people are being extra hard on the game due to the tremendously long wait. This is normal. Duke also got a lot of advantages to being highly anticipated and half of it's customers buying it just for the sake of having bought it.

2 - Complex mechanics? No. Competent? Yes. I wanted simple-but-it-works. Instead it was clunky-but-tolerable-sometimes
