If I first heard it playing behind amazing visuals, I usually listened to it. So it mostly locked in to soundtracks for games and a couple of movies. 4 years is quite a while to develop actual taste in music.

I used to consider myself a "I don't have a favorite band" type of guy at 17... and I still do, I just acknowledge a couple now as bands I enjoy more then other bands.

Ugh... I am so disappointed in my 17 year-old self. I listened to street punk pretty exclusively. It's not to say that I don't still love street punk, but I was kind of a douche about punk, and it's a point of shame for me. That said here is a list of the punk bands I listened to every day when I was 17:
A Global Threat
The Unseen
The Casualties
Leftover Crack
GBH
The Exploited
The Krum Bums
Violent Society
F-Minus
Total Chaos
Toxic Narcotic
Nausea
The Varukers
Blanks 77
Funeral Dress
Defiance
Career Soldiers
Subhumans UK
The Restarts

Good times... back when I was an asshole... I mean a different kind of asshole than the one I am now.

For me 17 was10 years ago, so you youngsters with your damn hula hoops and pacman video games have me flusterd (cookie for referance)
Yeah, that was a decade ago for me too. I forget what I was listening to. Slipknot, Korn, and some other crappy nu-metal. Fear Factory has actually lasted though. Same with White Zombie and some of the alt-rock I was into at the time.

I listened to nearly all genres of music and I still listen to nearly all genres of music now. Back then I didn't have a problem with classical, but I never went out of my way to put it on so it wasn't something I listened to. Pop I avoided back then but now I don't really have a problem with it, I just don't buy CDs for it. Rap and hip-hip I still avoid mostly though as I have a hard time finding music of that style that I actually like, which is weird as I do like 50 Cent's music.

Favourite bands then - Dream Theater, Emperor, Mindless Self Indulgence, Moonspell & Nine Inch Nails.

I trying very hard to remember. I think I was listening to Blink 182 (last album they made), Sugarcult, Reel Big Fish, some Amon Tobin, Postal Service, Santana, Reggae (mostly Third World and Bob Marley), the Killers, and a little bit of the Foo Fighters (only a handful of songs).

I had a friend that was into ska, a friend that was into electronic, a friend that was into post-punk and 90's stuff, and a friend that was into indie-hipster music. Since I started getting into music waaaay after they did, I sorta became an amalgam of their music tastes.

Haha, no way. Saves the Day kicks ass.

Brand New, Taking Back Sunday, Senses Fail, Escape the Fate, Midtown, Billy Talent, Madina Lake, Silverstein, Hawthorne Heights, All Time Low.

Basically pop punk, pop rock, screamo, and post-hardcore.

Ahaha, I have exactly what this is asking for.

When I was 17 I had a last.fm account, I don't use it anymore, stopped WHEN I was halfway through being 17.

Also just for comparison, my current last.fm

Quite the difference, actually.

I'm currently 17... so... um... yeah...

Foo Fighters, Muse, Anarchy Club, and all the classic rock and metal from the 60's and 70's. Pretty much covers most of it.

16-17 was around when I was looking back at music from the 60's and 70's, I think most people go through that kind of phase

(or I would hope so, would miss out on a lot of great music if they didnt)
