In no particular order:
The Town
Scott Pilgrim vs The World
Inception
Toy Story 3
127 Hours
Haven't seen Fair Game or Tron, which both of those looked good or have potential.

Why does everybody think Tron is going to be so amazing? When was the last time they did a decent reboot of an old series without losing all the charm and No the A-Team definitely does not count.

Apart from that I have to agree with most here. Scott Pilgrim, Kick Ass, Inception, Shutter Island, Expendables and RED were all great movies and I enjoyed Predators which was a nice surprise. Machete isn't out here yet though and I fully expect to add that to the list. Iron Man 2 was a massive anticlimactic letdown for me though.

Movie Bob's Black Swan Review also made me really want to see that too.

After thinking back, I didn't really see very many new movies this year either, but my 5 would go something like this.
Scott Pilgrim
Inception
Toy Story 3
Let Me In(I would go with Let the Right One In neck and neck with Scott Pilgrim if this were just new to me in 2010 movies)
Iron Man 2

1) Toy Story 3
2) Inception
3) Scott Pilgrim vs. The World
4) How To Train Your Dragon
5) Iron Man 2

Films to avoid:
Remember Me (seriously, worst film of 2010, avoid it like the plague or a creepy stalker with a knife).
The Expendables
Twilight Sage: Eclipse
Shrek Forever After
Robin Hood

My favorites of 2010 (that I can remember off hand), in order of favorite to least favorite on the list, is:

1. Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World
2. Inception
3. The Social Network
4. Kick-Ass
5. Iron Man 2

There are a few others I saw, but those are the ones that I loved. A-Team, Prince Of Persia, How To Train Your Dragon, Toy Story 3 and Shutter Island would be on the list if the top 5 weren't so amazing.

Scott Pilgrim
Kick-Ass
Inception
Toy Story 3
The Social Network

Ruling films out of that list was surprisingly hard (dammit, Harry Potter. Being a good film makes this a difficult decision). And there's still Tron:Legacy and Black Swan to go.
Oh, the A team was a lot of fun, and so was Iron Man 2. The Expendables was kind of disappointing.
I've watched a lot of films this year, it seems.

Inception
Scott Pilgrim Vs The World
Kick-Ass
The Social Network
Harry Brown (technically a 2009 film, but wasn't released outside UK until 2010 - a fine example of Michael Caine acting well in a small movie)

1. Inception - Pure brilliance and completely mind blowing
2. Jackass 3D - Hilarious
3. Shutter Island - Genius storyline and kept me hooked
4. The Social Network - Took me by surprise. Didn't think it would be so brilliant
5. Toy Story 3 - Waited 11 years for this film and it didn't disappoint

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, Toy Story 3, Shutter Island, Inception, Kick Ass, was a VERY good year for films, with just about all the others mentioned above valid too. Where have you been?! Special Credit to Harry Potter actually, probably better than Kick Ass this year, even if you hate Harry Potter it was surprisingly good (I like Harry Potter, but its like being a fan of Batman then watching Batman Begins)

DAMN dude, we have an identical taste in films. I might swap "Toy Story 3" and "Scott Pilgrim" maybe. But otherwise, total agreement.

I agree with the original writer though, I rarely see new films at the cinema any more (I made an exception for these five, plus a couple of others like "Buried". Don't trust Moviebob on this one by the way, it's terrible.) I'd probably be better equipped to give you a 2009 list than a 2010 one.

I've been increasing my movie watching habits fairly recently and while there weren't as many hits as 2008 (2009 had some great ones, but not many), the few that I did consider the best were absolutely fantastic. I'm going to try to see True Grit and Black Swan as well soon, so it's possible my list may very well change

1. Inception (the DVD is out, so now I've seen it like 5 times to confirm my "he woke up" theory)
2. Scott Pilgrim (seen it twice in cinemas, just amazing)
3. Dogtooth (an indie, extremely disturbing Greek film with unpretentious social commentary. It's pretty much about parenting gone wild, where this family has been sheltered in this one place where they've never escaped out of the house's boundaries for their whole life, and how that affects the "kids" who are in their 20's sexuality, and world views.)

4. Four Lions (a perfect British dark comedy about Islamic terrorists that needs to be seen by everyone.)

5. A Prophet (absolutely engrossing French film about a Muslim in prison who rises up the ranks to work for a racist mob boss that actually rivals GODFATHER in scope, character arcs, development, shocking violence, and drama.)

There you go, a little variety.
