I'm assuming 2018 will bring us new games. Big AAA releases, small indies and stuff in between. Some good, some bad, but mostly average. The usual suspect franchises will probably get another entry, among other sequels, prequels, spin-offs and/or rereleases. There will be some unexpected standout games and some disappointing ones. Some controversies will pop up for whatever reason may come, be it sleazy (business) practices by some publisher or developer, someone getting offended over something, or numerous other possible causes.
On a personal level, I'll probably stay the course I've been on these past years. Buy about half a dozen games, split about evenly between older games and actual new releases, mostly during sales, while continuing to somewhat shrink my sizeable backlog.
