Sorry I seem to have missed something here, what is EC and where are you getting details of The Escapist's financial information? As far as I have seen, The Escapist seems to be doing fine!

Seems like James tried to screw over the Escapist and then spin it to make them look like the bad guys. If he really did promise the extra money to Extra Credits rather than an Indie Publishing Company all to himself, then legally threaten the Escapist with breach of contract for not paying him fast enough (after they said he'd be paid within a week) then fuck him. Fuck his egotistical bullshit for pulling that on them and then trying to make it look like the Escapist were the devil himself by spinning it in an amazingly one-sided posting.

If not then the Escapist don' goofed.

Oh, and my house is still relatively intact, and no i'm not totally bitter and angry.

I don't know where your getting this false information. James wanted to use the money for a non-profit indie publishing company. They've always believed in the creativity and hard work of developers. With this company, their reinforcing that belief.

Have you actually read the response from that guy hired on The Escapist? Because judging by that, I'd say that James is a scammer and a liar. I have low respect for The Escapist due to prior things, like letting pedophiles run rampant, so I'm not biased in favor of The Escapist or anything if you think that. But the facts seem pretty obvious, that Extra Credits is fooling its gullible into giving them money. I kinda hope The Escapist takes him to court for defamation, because the fucker deserves it.

Have you ever even watched Extra Credits (obviously not, you don't have any emblems)? Have you even seen the articles about what the donations would go towards?

They requested donations because the artist for their show needed surgery on her arm/hand/whatever (because TheEscapist wasn't paying them I might add. And "pay last" does not = "Do Not Pay For Half A Year". And while I'm on that, UnrealRealms, an old contributor that left, didn't get paid until 14 months after they were owed money. Incase you're having trouble understanding that, imagine not being paid for a year and 2 months.) They got their donations, much more than they expected. They said they'd put that money towards something good, they just needed to discuss what that would be. People obviously were ok with that so they kept donating.Then they decided they'd use the money to create a fund to publish indie games. Something any fan of Extra Credits is most likely totally on board with, as is evident by the comments in that link. So people kept donating. A Lot. %660 of the goal.

Don't talk about "Facts" when you don't even know basic ones like this that have been discussed to death already. And don't talk about being "gullible" when you're taking a side before the e-mails have even been released.

They chose to let people keep donating money for it, even when they had more than enough. "Oh but they weren't expecting it", yeah, some of the extra money I can get that they weren't ready to close out. But they chose to milk their fans as fucking much as they possibly could, because they're greedy fucks. I don't give a fuck about The Escapist not paying some of their other editors, I don't give a fuck about them not paying Extra Credits either. Because didn't you know? James even told them that they could put him on "the bottom of the paylist", because The Escapist had problems with the dosh. You know why I call him a scammer? Because he's trying to rile all you dumbfucks into taking his side and going on a rampage against The Escapist, by writing an incredibly one-sided story where lots of facts were left out. "How does that make him a scammer? hurr hurr hurr", as you're probably about to say. It means he can keep crying about living in poverty and get you to keep throwing dosh at him, he knows you're all dumb enough to do it, he just has to wave a finger. Just look at how quickly he got you all to throw it at that untalented hack he has working for him. Yes, I know she does more than Extra Credits, and if I actually took some time to practice my drawing I'd easily surpass her. She's not a good artist, and she's a fool for not getting an insurance for her arm in the first place.

How is not getting paid for over a year being a scammer? How is using the donations that have massively over whelmed the original target for something that they have only talked the talk about so far being a scammer?

We are now aware that the Escapist is financially hurting a little and if the US enters another recession, things will only get worse. With being unable to pay employers and the self acknowledging cutting of features, this slide will probably only get worse before it gets better.

I personally am expecting more contributors to jump on the EC bandwagon and leave, now that the proverbial first step has been taken. Also, with more users now not re-upping their publisher club accounts, their will be less money to go out and get new (well maybe not new, but quality) talent.

The question now is, what direction do you think the Escapist will go in and how will this site be in about a years time?

Hahaha. Who knows? I mean the signs are all there as I previously transcribed, but we might be digging a little deep. If that's the case, then the Escapist are just misers and/or are lackadaisical when it comes to paying their bills.

As much as I feel Extra Credits are in the right with their situation, I find it very unprofessional to publicly announce the Escapists wrong doings. Nothing to do with "calling a spade a spade," but it just opened a can of worms that can't be undone. They essentially made it public that not only is the Escapist poor, they handle situations terribly. That's detrimental for a place of business. Despite what James and Extra Credits believe is the right way, they've wronged a lot of staff and a whole community who may never recover. Such a shame in the war of the e-peens.
