2010 will bring new boy bands, new annoying popular songs that are played way to many times, and most likely more than one scandal surrounding some musician.
Them Crooked Vultures give me hope... since the majority of their career will be in the new decade.
but I think it will have a similar sound to this first decade of the 21st century. Which would mean more of the attempts to fuse together genres into.... well, mostly garbage.
Makes me sort of cringe to the possibilities of that... I just hope the auto-tuning phase can be over with. Much like how stereo was a novelty when it was first introduced... hopefully it wont be shoved into songs for no damn reason other than because they could.

Predictions:
People saying that 'todays' music is better than 'yesteryears' will be ostracized by those "in the know", and their views tastes and opinions will be swiftly ripped apart.
However people saying that 'yesteryears' music was better than 'todays' will be left alone, for a few reasons. 1: because nobody tends to remember the sheer amounts of musical crap people had to put up with ten twenty or thirty or (go on) years ago. Or they weren't born so all they know of are the things that lasted. Also it's just the nature of these things that when you say this, people will assume that you are knowledgeable about yesteryears music, so people will be afraid to question you and be made to look dumb.
In reality we'll probably have the same ratio of rubbish everyone loves-to-good shit people wont appreciate for at least ten years that we've always had.
I'm not going to use the word indie because there's obviously an actual genre of music associated with that term these days (which is as dumb as the term alternative was in the 90s), but I will say that in this particular decade we've entered into the second independent revolution in music. The first was the birth of the independent labels back in the 80s (spawned by punk rock). This second one is with the birth of social networking sites. There's suddenly quite a bit less of a need of a manager, or a even a small time label anymore. Bands can potentially survive doing shit themselves (and it happens believe it or not, I've seen it. I've booked long-running successful tours through myspace alone. I'm not trying to toot my own horn but just showing that this is indeed very possible for those who wish to put forth the elbow grease).
This should only continue in the new decade. Never before have I seen the youth of the world so in-tune with the music flying below the radar. You know, that big part of the iceberg that's below the surface. I'll end this all with a quote that I find fitting.

Blink-182 has an album due... I like them.
Anthrax is coming out with an album, so is Judas Priest, Motorhead, The Offspring, and Van Halen. And that's just well-known bands, I don't know how many unknown bands will be coming out with great stuff.
I'm looking forward to it, personally.

...now what are my HOPES for the new decade? I hope Amanda Palmer gets the mainstream respect she deserves (not that she's not doing very well). I hope that Amy Winehouse comes back with some great songs. Amy Winehouse was probably the most talented singer out there in the last ten to fifteen years making good music that nobody else was making, and what happens? The shit eaters focus on her alcohol problems, and ignore her pretty amazing music. Go eat shit, shit eaters.
Other than that, I hope in general that intelligent hip-hop reaches the mainstream and completely eclipses the dumb hip-hop. Because intelligent, insightful and witty hip-hop DOES EXIST.
I think folk is going to make a big comeback, and I couldn't be happier. Great genre. I hope honesty makes a comeback.
I hope the major labels breath their last breath. They're corporations that care nothing of the artists, or the fans, or artistic integrity. They care about bleeding every last buck out of the music art form, and suing moms in freaking Kansas who fileshare for thousands of dollars. Of course it's a huge business, and it'll find a way to survive and flourish. It's just the way these things work. I can still cross my fingers.

There's plenty of good stuff out there so get off your lazy arse and look for it, instead of expecting it to come to you. Always has been, always will be. You never know, you might find something you like. Entire genres exist that you barely know, and if you still can't find what you like, do it yourself and don't be so damn hard to please.

well, the noughties have been like any other decade; yes there is crap, but there is also so much good music. ultimately all the decades are similar in that almost every genre will have good and bad music attributed towards it; for every n-dubz there is a dan le sac/scroobius pip, for every kanye west there is a jay-z, for every kelly clarkson there is a pj harvey, for every razorlight there is a tv on the radio, for every lady gaga there is a justice (etc. etc.)

If I never hear another one of those RnB vocal acts with the voice distortion thing going on,it'll be to soon.
Ditto to slutty looking divas.How many barley dressed chicks singing like one of the Chipmunks about how heart broken they are because of their poor choice in men,while pushing their tits into the camera and waxing lyrical about providing a strong role model for young women,do we need to subject our teenage girls to?

Anyway I already know there are GOOD songs that were released in the 2000's because I already like bands like Velvet Revolver, U2, Fuel, Audioslave, Staind, Limp Bizkit, A Perfect Circle, Disturbed, Incubus, Nine Inch Nails, System of a Down, Slip Knot, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc. I know these are more mainstream as well but that doesn't make a difference to me, however the point is they're not great, I find 'em to be really weak. I know I risk myself sounding like a dick over the internet disagreeing after you put the effort in and I really appreciate it as well but they really aren't that powerful.
Don't get me wrong though, some of those songs you mentioned are amazing, could you please give me some more.
