So, fellow members of the Escapist community, a question came to my mind as i was reading a different topic. It was only a small part of the discusion there, and only marginally relevant to that subject, but it sparked my curiosity. So, here it is:
If it was legal in your country, would you use the services of a prostitute, escort, lady of the evening, or whatever term you prefer? The type of person i am talking here about is the independent one (no pimp or anything), not any of the ones that are forced in some way into it by someone else, like through kidnapping and that sort of thing. Just someone who does this for a living, works only for herself (or himself, if that is you preference), takes care of everything on her own, etc.
If you would, then why: curiosity, not being able to get sex any other way, prefering to just pay for it and save time, perhaps getting to do things most people you could have sex with wouldn't agree to do? And if you wouldn't, then why not: a belief that it is wrong (religious or otherwise, like a belief that it is still exploitation, and unjust even in this situation, etc.), not wanting to spend the money, not having the money, not being attracted to sex when it lacks emotional attachment?
Though traditionally i think this question would be directed at men, i have no problem if any ladies want to give their answer on this topic. After all, i don't think it's impossible for a woman to do this, and i'm sure it happens.
And to give you my answer, well... I already have, years ago. The reason was that I just didn't want to be a virgin anymore. It was as simple as that.
