Valve's reputation would sustain pretty heavy damage, I suppose, at least with the hardcore HL crowd

The internet will spectacularly implode with nerdrage and bile and plumes of fire.

Or ppl'd just ignore it and play anyway.

Valve fanboys would proudly declare it good and everyone else is an idiot who can't appreciate blah blah blah.
Unless valve REALLY cocked it up, which I think they'd probably go "Oh shit we better fix this!"

Now I'm betting the STORY might leave a lot of people pissed, but it's not like valve to retcon things so they'll probably just make up for HL2:EP3 with HL3, in a shiny, new, and hopefully innovative engine.

due to the heightened hype and anticipation, it could be the second coming and it could still flop.

People would be flame about it for the rest of the year until the next Sonic game or Guitar Hero is released.
I Think it might live on as one of those games so bad/over speculated that it'll be one of those meme type games people will reference forever on what not to do to end a series after the last part had more time than the rest of the series did in total in development

Not actual work hours but saying

Emp:[Ok today we start work on Sonic the Hedgehog #1 till it's 1st day of release vs. Sonic Adventure Development plan day one to it's street date]

the time in total they have possibly been able to work on it has probally overshadowed the amount of time they've had on the rest of HL:2 right? Anyway I'm not personally all that concerned but I mean if they have not been working on it every waking moment sense episode 2 then it'll never likely meet most peoples real expectations for such a long wait. Oh and who'd want to work on a project you'd assume people could never love?

Erm your making the assumption that everyone thought HL2 Ep1 & Ep2 were good or even average ?
HL2 Ep1 Metacritic Score: 87/100
User Score: 8.5/10

HL2 Ep2 Metacritic Score: 90/100
User Score: 9.2/10

Maybe not everyone, but the majority of people did.
I know I enjoyed them!

On topic: I'd probably be disappointed, but I'd get over it.
I still enjoy the previous titles, even if the newest addition turned out poorly.

This massive wait has led me to deduce three possibilities for what Valve is doing with their time.

1) Busy providing support to released titles
2) Working on unreleased titles OTHER than Episode 3
3) Finally working on a new game engine and preparing to release the entire HL2 trilogy on it.

I'm hoping for #3 but I have complete faith in Valve, regardless of the reasoning.

That's what they said for Duke Nukem Forever - You'll see! YOU'LL SEE!!!

Also, it wont turn out bad, or rather the legions of screaming fans will say it's a good game and critics will rate it well because it's in the Half Life series, and they are "good" reviewers.

I think the worst possible out come is Half-Life being enjoyable to Halo Fans... the serious retard, frat boy halo fans. I think that would signal the infernal pact made by Valve ending and payment being called for by Mammon.

no eli did

Ya, I would still play it, but Valve hasn't released a bad game to date, and by bad, I mean absolutely horrible. All of their games had their ups and downs, but all of them were also good.

Normal Valve fans would start a riot on Valve's headquarters, the hardcore Valve fans would praise it in denial.

If they're still using the same outdated gameplay from HL2, I'll be mildly displeased anyway.

The world would move on, and it would be forgotten in a few months.

Oh, and Valve would lose a lot of fanboys.
