Something tells me you were a DM at one point. Cryptic suggestions and implications?Spinwhiz said:Hi Peeps!
I apologize for my tardiness on this thread, I was not ignoring anyone at all but I wanted to update you with what I could. We have some implementations and possible changes coming up on The Escapist in the near future that may make some of the awesome ideas you have available, so I appreciate your patience.
For those items not covered, Kuliani and I are going to start trying to put together the rest. I don't mean to be cryptic but unfortunately there are some really great things we are working on that I just can't let out of the bag just yet. Just know that I LOVE these types of RPs and I'm going to do whatever I can to make this forum even more amazing.
Best,
Spinwhiz
Actually, I did used to GM/DM a RIFTS campaign that went on for quite some time and I'm developing my own table-top based on The Dark Tower Series by Stephen King. I also used to mod/DM on a RP chat forum much like this when they first started getting popular about 13 years ago. Damn...I'm getting old!Flying-Emu said:Something tells me you were a DM at one point. Cryptic suggestions and implications?Spinwhiz said:Hi Peeps!

I love it. It's another quest for the great Emu to solve.
I know, it sucks doesn't it?Spinwhiz said:Damn...I'm getting old!
Seconded!DirkGently said:Dice rolling would help make things a bit more fair and apparent I think. Might get me a bit more interested. It'd also be cool if we could get a setup for online DnD and other setups going, fairly steadily.
I'm placated, teased, angered and aroused by your blend of torment-ish foreshadowing and much appreciated lettin gme know i'm not twitching like a spider freebasing sugar for no reason. In short, I feel loved... but it's annoying older relative love where they dangle goodies above my short-as-gnomes childness. Appreciated, though.Spinwhiz said:Just know that I LOVE these types of RPs and I'm going to do whatever I can to make this forum even more amazing.
Yes, tons of half-assed RPs have been made lately, I can think of 5 that I have joined that were either done right off the start, or within a week. The Sorrow said:I think we need some sort of quality control. There are a few good ones floating around, they just tend to be posted in much less frequently and so they live on pages 3 or 4. We have novel-length, novel-quality RP's around, they just tend to be the whales in this thrashing sea of tuna. Surfacing rarely, but they're the ones you wait hours afloat to catch a glimpse of.Shapsters said:Yes, tons of half-assed RPs have been made lately, I can think of 5 that I have joined that were either done right off the start, or within a week. The Sorrow said:I think we need some sort of quality control. There is the bookmark ability which is essentially what you are asking for. It doesn't keep tabs per say but it does keep the thread at the top of the page so you can always find it and see when someone has made a new post. It's very helpful and I recommend for everyone to use it when taking part in a role play.Ultrajoe said:I don't think we need quality control, but a way to 'favorite' threads like those would be great. Informing subscribers of new posts, GM updates and the aformentioned 'play-casts' (now named playcasts). Some people do enjoy the one-lined RP's, but if we had a way to keep tabs on the leviathans, it wouldn't annoy the more involved RP'ers as much. They could conduct their RP's from their subsription list rather than the RP forum, and never see the 2 solid pages of... stuff.
I was more thinking a little box in your profile that could contain links to the thread, ect. And face it, you love the idea of turning RP's into super high-tech awesomesauce. That does sound awesomesauce but also sounds very unlikely. It doesn't make sense to include this rather complex feature for a small part of the forums.Ultrajoe said:I was more thinking a little box in your profile that could contain links to the thread, ect. Sort of like an expanded version of the Roleplaying Guidelines [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/362.63498] thread?scotth266 said:I think that a basic explanations thread is required: one that shows the newbies (like myself) the ropes with definitions of abbreviations that are commonly used, practices to avoid when RPing, yadda yadda yadda. You know what I mean.
Yes, a much expanded one. That thread seems to assume that you're already pretty informed about RPs... Sure, it lays down the law, but explains not the letter of it. It's got guidelines, but I don't need guidelines: I need INFO.Zemalac said:Sort of like an expanded version of the Roleplaying Guidelines [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/362.63498] thread?scotth266 said:I think that a basic explanations thread is required: one that shows the newbies (like myself) the ropes with definitions of abbreviations that are commonly used, practices to avoid when RPing, yadda yadda yadda. What else do you need to know? Everything else is basically thread-specific.scotth266 said:Yes, a much expanded one. That thread seems to assume that you're already pretty informed about RPs... The thread doesn't even say what a RP is. It also doesn't explain the term OOC. My point being, there are a lot of questions the new people will have that could be answered fairly easy by expanding the thread (this is also evidenced by the trench-coat question from above).TikiShades said:What else do you need to know?
