The same to me - I don't use Steam and I've never played a Valve game.
I know - I am a heathen.
Poor fool, never playing a Valve game doesn't make you a heathen, it makes you a pitiful, deprived wretch. Go, purchase a Valve game, any Valve game. Or perhaps simply download a demo. Play it, and embrace the pureness of the design and gameplay. When you have completed your pilgrimage, return to us, enlightened, so that you may begin your life anew. Amen.

Eh, wouldn't have been much different really.

Half-Life was good, but not as epic as people claim, and Counter Strike was mediocre. I only played CS because some of my friends did, but Rainbow Six always did it better, I'm talking about R6 before the smelly Vegas shit.

I'd have a couple less games to play when my MMOs are down for maintenance, patches, and/or other assorted hardware/networking issues.

Chances are more people would know about System Shock 2, Half-Life was the reason it was downplayed into cult legend. Maybe then we'd have a SS3? Or am I daring to dream?

You would have to do a lot more shopping IRL and there would be a lack of good games, as well as a lack of a starting platform for indie games.
How the hell would there be a lack of good games without valve!? Half life and Team fortress don't compose the entirety of PC gaming you know. I do agree that we would miss out on some cool mods but thats a bit "eh".

Yeah but...
I don't think Valve makes RPGs...
Well, I guess I could try one out...
But keep the cultist stuff away from me.
You dare call Valve a cult?

YE SHALL BE BURNED IN THE HOLY FIRE AND PURGED OF YOUR-
Er, I mean, that's a perfectly good opinion.

you are not alone

seriously people there is more to PC gaming than what Velve has contributed, you have mmo's, rts, and other shoots like Shogo. and as long as i can play some good old fashion Starcraft im happy

EDIT
3 more shooters CoD, Quake, Doom

A large decrease of FPS games with Blizzard being the head of PC gaming along with some unique and innovative RTS and maybe a few less idiots on FPS games .

You'll be sayin' wow every time you use this towel.

Valve games are not as incredible as everyone makes them out to be.
And Steam is not the end-all-be-all perfect method of buying games.

Wait so I am not alone!? I thought I was the only person on this site that did not bow down at valves feet.

Half life was revolutionary, and I think valve not only springboard other games ideas but push higher standards and benchmarks, as well as better work practices for the employees.
I am sure without Valve and Half life, there would have been some other game and/or company that would take it's place really. I really really don;t think Half life was THAT revolutionary
