What would the Escapist have been like without ZP/Is ZP the best thing to happen to the Escapist?

The ratio of "I spelt it correctly, that means I'm right and clever!" fools would be greater than the "OMFG Lol-copter" types. The overall number of users would be much lower also.

That's about it really.

It keeps the stuck ups on their toes and makes the lol'ers put a little effort in at times, so I'm happy. As both piss me off to an extent.

ZP is easily the best thing on the escapist. If it wasn't here, this site would be just another run of the mill gaming site, grammar Nazi's or not.
Dare I make the conclusion that The Escapist is actually pretty well balanced site. The elitists help keeping the lollers in line, and vice versa. Then there´s the middle ground, where people just post, make occasional spelling errors but overall know who to behave and enjoy. I personally can see a potential for everyone in here to learn something: Openmindness, tolerance and proper forum behaviour. It´s up to the users to learn their lessons.

I wouldn't be here if there was no ZP to be had. Also, I would have no idea what day of the week it is XD

it would be interesting to have a poll and see how many people were here before ZP and those that joined after.

(i saw the youtube reviews and came here as a result :))

The Escapist for me would not be very different for me just because I am on here every day and ZP only comes out on thursdays so honestly Zp is good but not good enough to change The Escapist for me [Sorry Yatzhee]

I would not say it is the best thing that happened just because honestly I actually like Graham and Paul better now those two forces combining together this week that was the best thing that ever happened to the Escapist I think Graham should have had a whole episode on ZP with Yatzhee instead of them being seperate

Heh, apparently I´m a parrot. So, it´s "read, then comment." I´ve got it now.

Well I can say for sure that before ZP I had never heard of the Escapist. Like any media it needs it's superstar to shine in the darkness and attract the masses like a bug zapper attracts the moth to it's electric doom. ZP brings eyeballs to the site, eyeballs attached to wallets that pay for more things like There will be Brawl, Unskippable and Doomsday Arcade much like Michael Jordan brought massive attention to basketball and Nike in the late 80's and 90's, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson made wrestling mainstream again in the late 90's and early Y2K or Paris Hilton brought attention to sluts and night vision modes on camcorders. We can't argue that ZP has fundamentally changed The Escapist but that change was bound to happen as the site needed to adapt and gain marketshare in order to make money and ZP facilitated that immensely. What should trouble us is they day Mr. Ben "Yahtzee" Crenshaw quits or jumps the shark, kill the coolest character with a polar bear in a tropical forest, throw Indie in a fridge, let Olivia Munn talk about circumcision, or whatever show or movie ruining euphemism you know happens.
When Jordan retired, ratings fell for NBA games, and who still buys Air Jordans? Same goes for the WWE after the Rock quit. Wake me when Paris is dead.
What Escapist needs is to broaden it's appeal and create good quality entertainment that's diverse, unique and is full of cursey ninjas.

I made this thread a while ago, [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.82800?page=1] and it touches on a lot of similar topics. I just thought I'd bring it up as support for one answer: Escapists typically do think ZP has been a good impact.
And I'm not trying to be a search Nazi; that thread was buried deeper than those cartridges of ET for the Atari 2600.

But without ZP, I think the Escapist community would be more fickle, as too many people would stay too closely in forum proximity to each other.
