Ignore them unless they cause harm to someone. They have freedom of speech, and it would be wrong to deny that to them just because I strongly disagree with them (even if they are brainwashed), but if they cause harm to someone, they're going down.

Putting aside the whole idea of abusing said authority, just going by sheer fuck-you power fantasy?

I'd freeze all of their assets and deport them to somewhere like Saudi Arabia, then simply leave them to it. Let them make their fortunes in a country far less tolerant than the one they're currently happy to abuse the good graces of.

Now as people of the internet we are inevitably subject to something we geneally either dont understand or hate.

One of the most unaminous of theese things so far has been the Westboro Baptist Church.

So, given a position of total authority to do anything you want, what would you do about them?

Me:
I would make sure none of thier members can earn a decent living. Enough to survive, and continue protests if theyre that committed to it, but much, much worse off than if they were not a part of the group.

That was me, now, what about you?

They may feed off of attention but that doesnt mean that you have to be direct about it.
Just ignore them and they'll go away! Why do people keep going to their freaking rallies to protest!? That's what they want you to do!

My plan is already in action.

Phase 1: Form the EBC(Eastboro Baptist Church), an organization dedicated to protesting protests.

Phase 2: Show up at all Westboro protests with signs saying "God hates Protesters (1st Corinthians 10:10)" (Note: This strategy is so meta it hurts.)

Phase 3: Focus on martyrdom angle: We protest, sacrificing ourselves to condemnation to save others.

Phase 4: ?????

Phase 5: Assume complete and total dominion over the universe.

Make them live in an all black neighborhood. Why? Not because I think black people are bad, but because those racist sumbitches will probably all die of heart attacks in less than a month.

1. Place giant speakers pointing at the WBC protestors
2. Gather some counter-protestors and homosexuals.
3. Plug the speaker in with an iPod containing a playlist consisting of Rick Astley, the Village People, Elton John and popular gay anthems.
4. Unleash hell.

I'd create an all volunteer task force to go out to any funeral that the WBC is planning on protesting and provide a human screen between the WBC and the funeral.
I'd also have a second (also volunteer) task force to protest outside the WBC's home base/church and protest loudly and obnoxiously , possibly by playing a mix of Hanson, Spice Girls, NSYNC, Justin Beiber and Hannah Montana/Mylie Cyrus music from sun-up to sundown.
Well isnt there that one patriot gaurd oranization that does that for soilders funerals already?
There might be, but my task force will screen any and all funerals, regardless of who it is for, from the WBC people.

Have teams of people slap the protest signs out of their hands and give them coloring books and crayons.
That aught to keep them all occupied.

I hear Texas has loose gun-control laws, particularly in "protection of property". How hard would it be to lure them into protesting an NRA meeting?

Give them an island somewhere, make sure its JUST them, and leave. They can live on their own till the end of time for all I care. As long as they aren't building giant jesus robots to smash us all... or something of the like, I couldn't care less about what they do... ALONE. AWAY FROM EVERYONE. EVER.

non-aggressive solution for the win! Even though said island may be the home of a particularly active volcano >.> that minor detail can be overlooked.

Constantly use them and their beliefs as an example as to why Christianity and any religion based off of the Bible is sick and wrong. Oh wait, that's what I do already. I know, not ALL Christians believe in this crap, but all Christians do believe in the Bible, which just so happens to contain this crap. And if you say you "ignore" Leviticus, you can't ignore Genesis, which tells us it's okay let everyone else on the planet drown and that it's A-okay to slaughter your son if God asks you to do so. I'm not sure if even WBC can get behind murdering their own children because a voice in their head told them to do so. Or that line where Jesus said to bring the unbelievers before him to be slain. We should be thankful all they do is protest.

I'd save the damn children. Give the parents restraining orders on their kids, set them up for adoption and make sure they went to decent, agnostic families who would teach them to live like normal people. It's sickening that they have second-graders out there spewing this garbage.

Easy, If I had total authority I would simply cut off media coverage of their antics. The money and time they put into protests will go to waste. The organization will bleed out and disperse, and if they don't, they'll be forced into constantly doing local protests.

Unless of course I stop them from protesting in urban areas on the grounds their hate speech could provoke a riot.

the actual bible is about being a good person and not discriminating between people.
People like the WBC want to discriminate and use the bible as a excuse.

Even with absolute authority, you're relatively hamstrung. If you do anything too blunt, you have to deal with martyrdom and all of the people who're going to be unhappy with your censhorship (even those who agree with it). Your best option would probably be trying to get them to collapse from within (find an underhanded way to educate their children for a single generation and prevent outside recruitment).

Have you ever read the Bible?

You can argue that people don't adhere to it, that it's symbolic, that certain parts are outdated and are therefore legitimately subject to a modern reinterpretation, but arguing that the Bible itself, as it is written, says you should be a good person or that it discourages discrimination is just silly (except in the vacuous sense that it defines what a good person is). Again, your interpretation of it may lead you in another direction, but what it literally says (not in the sense of "what is its sacred intended message", which is subject to the above qualifications, but in the sense of "what would the average take as the meaning of the written words") is pretty hard to defend in this way.
