If it's not a family member, just someone else not known to me, I'd go over historical records of the building - former owners, sudden deaths, etc, to see if I could identify the ghost. With that knowledge I could possibly try to bring it some measure of peace. I love a good mystery.

Well, if someone just appears and disappears, I'd probably jump, then wonder if I saw what I think I saw.

Then I would try and investigate.

Indeed. Also, I would try and communicate unless there appeared to be some sort of threat.

Curiosity would probably beat any impulse responding to anything not an obvious threat. I'd be calling up people, too. If I have a real ghost on my hands, I want to prooooove it.

If it was frightening or aggressive: Run the fuck away very fast.

If not: Try to talk to it. If that didn't work, try writing on a piece of paper and golding it up. If that didn't work, try to take a photo.
I swear, if I didn't video tape myself sleeping, I'd be suspicious of the frequency with which we say similar things.

Why do I video tape myself sleeping?

Because the tea kettle tells me to, obviously.

Assuming it's not a Japanese-style ghost. Y'know, the ones who mess with technology.
don't a lot of ghost stories involve ones that mess with technology? Maybe not in the "Seven days" sense, but....

i would hope it would attempt communication. but otherwise i'd simply maintain standard protocol, on high alert.

Wait? Seeing ghosts isn't natural. Does that mean being a ghost isn't natural? Or, in other words, does that mean we aren't real?...

I think I'm just going to go into the wall and have an existential crisis...
Don't listen to them. Ghosts are as real as you or me....

...what?

Depends. But I wouldn't even think it was a ghost based on that.
Might have been an alien or other paranormal activity, or more likely, a hallucination or a human intruder.

I'd probably be worried I'm hallucinating again. (I have seen weird stuff before, when half-asleeep or feverish)

Would still creep me out, though.

Simple. I'd go get armed, then make sure it wasn't an intruder. Following that, I'd take another 5mg Olanzapine.

I'd be terrified, run to my room, turn all the lights on, if it was still there I'd try to take photos, if not I'd assume I was insane.

I would attempt communication and invite it to possess me, if it were that kind of ghost. The idea of having multiple minds in my head or another mind in control of my body fascinates me. Hell, going insane in general is an idea that fascinates me. It is impossible to think in a way other than my own if I am just me, but if I go insane or have other minds inside my own I would be able to see things a different way.

Fascinating.

Considering it can't possess me, I would ask what is on the other side of death, obviously.

If the ghost can't communicate, I would contemplate whether it was an actual ghost, which I would then contemplate the afterlife because of, or I would pass it off as more insane ramblings to go in my secret notebook of insane ramblings/ daily agenda.

Depends on the ghost.

Skin-tinglingly horrifying ghost with gore and stuff? Call Ghostbusters and then bounce way the hell out of there.

Normal looking human ghost? MAKE OUT WITH IT.

I'd probably never sleep in that bed again, run downstairs and hope that it wasn't dangerous. Seriously if they were real Ghosts would be the bane of my existence.

I really don't know what I would do, it could be arrange if things depending on what it looked like. If it look scary and threatening I might faint, shit myself, or run away screaming. If it didn't I might try to talk about it or do one of the previously mentioned things. It's like me hoping that I would face an armed hostile (being a teacher and defending my class) but I have no idea what I would do until, god forbid, it happened.

Pretty much what everybody else has said. Either scream and run like hell, stare at it in shock, or anything further or in between. I really wouldn't know but even the idea of it scares me, so. Probably stare in shock mixed with screaming.

I would question everything I had believed up until that point while shitting bricks. After staring at it in absolute horror for about an hour I might try to communicate with it.
