Simple premise:

You wake up tomorrow, and half of the world are mutants (Like the X-men) with superpowers of different levels, but you didn't have any.

What would you do as a Human in a world where 50% of people had powers?

And How would the world at large react?

I think there would be a sudden divide in the populace. The new muties think they are better than the remaining normal humans, try to enslave them, perhaps.
As much as I'd like to think I'd try to do things peacefully, there would doubtless be bloodshed, and I'd end up raising arms to protect the pure bloods.

I think this would be a pretty normal reaction. Of course there'd be a big war after failed treaties between the humans and mutants. Then to combat the mutant threat we'd use science to either give ourselves super powers; cure the mutants super powers or use technology against the mutants.

I'd immediately quit my job and become a photojournalist (It would be a better application of my degree anyway!).

Interesting thought, but keep in mind: The worlds borders are still in effect, so to simplify, every country on earth have 50% Humans, and 50% Mutants. It's not like the world will have all mutants in Europe and all humans in the US.

So how would these mutants unite? Would all humans want to unite? Or all Mutants for that matter?

These people were humans yesterday, and mutants today, so they would have possible commitments towards humans as well as mutants.

Try to learn as many secret identities as possible, it's bound to come in useful.

Join the army of Pure Bloods.

Or probably more realisticly, cry myself to sleep asking God "Why not me?!?"

I very much doubt there would be a war as most people on either side would have friends or family who were on the other side. I would hope the powers would be harnessed towards the good of everyone, human and mutant alike.

I think I'd probably get very envious, compounded by the humiliation of being trodden on by the mutants (many of which, I suspect, would still be TOTAL arseholes, just like they were when they were human...), become a mad genius with the task to liberate mutants of their superpowers, hire hundreds of like-minded goons to guard my project, fail catastrophically at the last second, escape just when they thought they had me cornered... and then turn up again in time for the sequel.

In more reasonable terms, I'd probably be very upset ("Why not me?!") and spend the rest of my life dealing with the chaos they cause. But heck, if half the world's populace have turned to mutant superhumans then any concept of 'reasonable' has been ignited and ejected from the nearest window.

Out of Jealousy, I would proclaim them unclean and a sin against the much more superior purebloods. However I would secretly cry myself to sleep each night and pray that maybe there is still a chance I could mutate.

Obviously I would become a badass mercenary who specializes in killing Supers with awesome guns and gadgets (and probably some kind of electro sword); they would be in high demand with the crime sprees that would undoubtedly follow, since deep down I think most people, given the opportunity, would be super villains rather than heroes. And I'm certainly not gonna miss out on all the fun of real life super battles.

Get a gun. I doubt there would be a civil war. With a full half of the population turning, everyone would be close to someone with superpowers. It's not enough of a minority to justify action. Any measure to control mutants would be turned down, as it would directly affect someone's family.

But you're still going to have criminals, and they're cunning enough to exploit any advantage. They'd be more audacious, and with superpowers, I wouldn't be able to fight them. So I'd use guns to level the playing field.

Well I would assume the world would erupt into violence.
How elaborate are these superpowers? If they're like, Dragonball Z status then probably nothing. I'm screwed the second some goku ************ wants my TV.

If they're "heroes" shooting fire and seeing sounds type shit there's no reason I can't be like batman or the punisher. Who knows, maybe the fact that I don't have powers but still kick ass will get me some wonderwoman style lovin'.
