Elvish. Yeah, the language Tolkien made up.

It shouldn't be English, because English isn't anywhere near the most used language, and many nations do not have a high fluency in it. Spanish would make far more sense than English (but tell that to most americans, lol),

But only if you've earned the title of "Big Damn Hero."

OT: I'll go ahead and vote English, since a good amount of the business world is learning it, anyways.
Thank you for being the first person in 4 pages to mention the reference :D
I went through all four to see if anyone else had beaten me to it.

Esperanto would be fitting as it was constructed to be an international language.

But I would pick whatever the vogon language is called. Poetry classes will be mandatory.
No.
Esperanto is bad and you should feel bad for suggesting we inflict that cobbled-together monstrosity on humanity.

OT: English is the logical option, most industry/rich nations here speak it and only spanish and chinese outrank it as 'most spoken'. So they could do, I guess, but I've little desire to learn either, especially chinese in all it's complexity.
Or, if I'm feeling sadistic but not sadistic enough to inflict...THAT...language on humanity, then I'd say Old Norse. Just for shits and giggles, plus I could learn it fairly well. And it'd be amusing to see spaniards and latinos look at me confused while I'm speaking the most common tongue fluently for once, instead of them expecting me to speak their rotting taco language everywhere I go. Yes, I mad. Also intoxicated. Still retaining impeccable spelling.

Boy, I'll be regretting this in the morning when I'm slapped down with a warning or suspension for racism (I figure 'rotting taco language' isn't very culturally sensitive). But that's future me's problem.
Spanish and chinese are more spoken as a first language, but english is the most spoken language on earth. A lot, a lot, a lot of international business is conducted in english, and many countries teach english in HS.

We should all speak fly. Because I'm sure I heard somewhere that that "Bzzzzzz" isn't the sound of their wings.

And all buzzing must be done with the tongue exiting the mouth. Soon our tongues would strengthen from pressure and we can all give great oral sex.
Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.....

English would be the practical one because it's already the primary second language on earth.

Lojban would brobably be the best because it's constructed to be mindboglingly ligical.

Though it would be nice to use Piraha, just because of their pronounciations rules based on the source of information.
Type 1. You saw/experienced it.
Type 2. Your friend saw/experienced it.
Type 3. Hearsay.
Needless to say: The missionary didn't get far with his 2000 year old stories there.

English is already the official worldwide business language.

Go to just about any country in the world there is one language that all the rich, powerful and educated will know and it's English.

I've heard that English is one of the hardest languages to learn, what with all of our insane rules, silent letters, and slang, so maybe it should be one of the easiest to learn, whatever that would be

I'm going to be boring and say English, specifically English(UK).

Mostly because it's one of the most efficient languages I know of (I'm sure there are some that are more efficient or at least on the same level but from the languages I've personally studied, I always end up writing half a sentence more to say the exact same thing)

I say specifically UK English because I'm biased and because I hate remembering to use different spelling and mannerisms when talking to Americans or anyone who learnt American English.

My more interesting choice would likely be Italian. Them hand gestures... xD

English. not only for its ease and commonallity, but the influence it now holds on other languages, with many words in other languages are English anyway.

Hyrulian, of course! http://www.omniglot.com/writing/hylian3.htm

Capcha: panic stations. Ah, yes - panic stations. They're full of 10-20 year-old girls who are the protagonists of surival-horror games. Memories.

Though, English (usually US or UK English) is taught all over the world, and your typical aristrocat-dock-fucking-bastard who lives across the street and burns queen-sized beds for a living probably knows it already.

Well, basically it's English.

Which is very good for native English speakers since it means you can go to most countries and expect at least some people there will also speak English. On the other hand, it makes it harder for native English speakers to learn another language because they are less likely to come into contact with other languages. It also means that, for non-native English speakers, they can access both media in their own language and culture and the international language of English.

I dunno...I find Japanese obscenities even more awesome, but to each his own, I suppose.
I have to disagree. It may be because I used to hang out with lots of chinese, but there is a very nice "feel" to swearing or ranting in Chinese that I honestly find hard to describe. That and it often sounds like Amy Wong from futurama.

OT:Malay, just for sadistic giggles. Maybe then it wouldn't be so useless(Ok, strong word. maybe)

If not, we shall all speak the universal language of violence,if only to make presidential elections and debate more fun to watch

The language of business and commerce should your official world language, although if I made a push ofr anything Id make it sign language. I find it easier to learn new words in since you get that little motion to stimulate your mind and its something you can do yourself to.

Spanish. That way everyone can sound incredibly sexy when they roll their R's.

I don't speak Spanish though.
