What would your Pokemon Gym team be?

So let's say you're a trainer in the Pokemon universe and you've just been selected to become a gym leader or alternatively a member of the Elite Four. Since it's apparently required by law for these people to specialize in one Pokemon type what type would you select and who would be on your team? For bonus points, how would you design your gym?

For me I'd probably have to go with Psychic type, it probably has the most personal favorites of mine for any type. As for my team I'd probably pick...

I guess my gym might have a bunch of logic puzzles, sticking with sort of the mental strength theme. Plus it gives my fellow Professor Layton fans an advantage, as all things should.

How about you?

EDIT: There's no need to plan your team for balance against an in-game trainer, unless you'd like to.

Gym leaders almost never have 6 pokes on their team and they usually have a few weak mons thrown into their team

here's mine!

It's a Bug type gym that awards the player with their 4th badge and a TM for Parasitic Bite (TM105: Parasitic Bite; Damages the opponent for 60 physical damage and returns 20% of the damage dealt to the user)

My badge is the Pest Badge which is shaped like a small winged insect and allows pokemon over level 50 to obey the trainer

My sprite is similar to that of a bug trainer but I have a gas mask and a pesticide gun with back mounted pesticide tanks.

Metapod

All bug trainers are required by law to have one. My metapod is battle hardened after years of training and is a much higher level than other pokemon at the current stage of the game
level: 65
moves:
Harden
String Shot
Tackle
Shuckle

Alright my team is still looking a little pathetic, but DO NOT underestimate this little guy; he can't put up much of a fight but he can take all sorts of abuse; also I'm a gym leader so Ill use a full restore on him about 8 times
level: 32
moves:
Protect
Toxic
Double Team
Sandstorm
Heracross

Alright now shit is getting serious. Heracross packs a huge physical punch and could easily rip apart a lot of what a trainer can have at this point in the game
level: 34
moves:
Mega Horn
Close Combat
Stone Edge
Hone claws
Mega Scizor

Well that escalated quickly! How did one trainer start with a Metapod and end with a pokemon that easily competes in the uber tiers? You best be packing a fire type pokemon!
level: 36
moves:
Bullet Punch
Parasitic Bite (player is awarded this TM after battle)
Sword Dance
Aerial Ace

My puzzle would be a dilapidated house filled with insects; it would be a maze with several floors which break when the player steps on them (like rayquazas tower but easier) The floor levels are basement main floor upper floor and attic. I will be in the attic which is filled with dust and has small bug pokemon scurrying around.

I'd be the joke gym leader that crashes your game because his team consists of nothing but Missignos. Thousands would try to figure the secret behind me. And there wouldn't be one.

You raise a good point, although I think it's implied that gym leaders alter their team to match the skill level of their opponent. So they might use their weaker mons against a trainer who doesn't have any badges yet rather than the implication that certain gym leaders are somehow weaker than the local preschoolers in the next town. For purposes of this thread, let's suppose this team is your final badge, no holds barred team.

Really cool idea for a gym btw. :)

I would be a Ground type Gym leader and these will be on my team-

Sandslash
Marowak
Krookodile
Nidoking
Garchomp (also holding the mega stone)
Swampert

Granted the above team is the max you can get once you beat me the first time (since they introduce the Gym battle rematch and getting stronger). Otherwise before that they will not be in their full evolve form and I won't have all 6 in my team.

Water type for me, with the following pokemon:

Swampert
Crawdaunt
Gyarados
Vaporeon
Walrein
Wailord

I'd like to see them try sweeping through with an electric type with Swampert in place, same for grass types and Gyarados. The gym itself would be located on a tropical island and be a really chilled out place, until the battles start that is!

I would be a water-type gym leader whose gym is located near an inactive volcano... My team would consist of:

Blastoise
Feraligatr
Swampert
Empoleon
Samurott
Greninja

Now, most of the dialogue exchanges between me and the challenger would be in the form of haikus while I would tell the short version of how I acquired the Pokemon in my party in the first place... Also, based on how many Pokemon the challenger has in his/her party would determine how many of my Pokemon would actually participate in said gym battle...

The gym's layout, itself, is mostly filled with juxtaposition with multiple wizard references hidden within itself... Those trainers that seem to just be there just to slow the challenger down all speak in some form of poetry (except one, but well excuse that as speaking "free verse") and the badge, itself, would kinda look like a cross between a pencil (or a brush in some cases) and a wand somehow...

Now, after said challenger wants to give me a rematch some time in the future, not only would my Pokemon be "three-times" as strong as when he/she first fought them, but I will be using all six of them no matter the circumstances...

Water type gym.
Mantyke
Crawdaunt
Qwilfish
Chinchou
And a lvl 100 Magikarp with tackle and flail.

Hopefully the magikarp has it's EVs spent in Atk and DEF. Even better if I spend a bajillion super potions on it.

Fire-type gym, my team would be the fire team I use in game, consisting of;

- Pyroar
- Talonflame
- Magcargo
- Camerupt
- Houndoom
- Magmortar (who would be insanely strong and know Thunderpunch, as a punishment to all the water-types who thought they'd have an easy ride)

The gym would be in a sauna in the northern icy town, the puzzle would involve tipping buckets of water over burning coals. This would put the fire out and allow the challenger to move forward, but also release a cloud of steam, which would clear to reveal a trainer, ready for battle.

Fossil Gym! You heard that right, the archeologists are taking the spotlight! the Gym would be an Indiana Jones style thing, with plenty of cunnin' traps and sneaky ruses!

My team would consist of....

And be totally great! And get utterly destroyed by water types!

The gym would be situated in some middle of nowhere wild-west styled town, with the Gym starting out as a museum then going deeper into the depths...

Oh yeah, and Team Rocket would totally try and do a bank heist at some point.

I'd be a Ghost type, mainly because Froslass is my all time favourite pokemon.

My Team:
1.Froslass

2.Sableye

3.Aegislash

4.Mismagius

5.Chandelure

6.Mega Gengar

I imagine a booby trapped ice cavern as my gym, but the trick is that the booby traps aren't real, so it looks like a big icicle is falling on you but it disappears before it hits you and things of that nature.

My gym would be called the Gym of Swift Difficult Lessons.

Inside would be a fiendish maze littered with trainers wielding all manner of pokemon with the promise that no matter what the prospective badge winner would see them use, the gym leader would use something completely different and unbelievable. Once they'd finally navigated the maze, beat the trainers and made it to my inner sanctum, there they would find me. With a crowbar, several corpses and huge pile of pokeballs.

Failing that, 6 Magikarps one after another.

My gym would be a mirror maze. A few trainers scattered throughout, but you can't fully tell where they are. My pokemon team?

4 DITTOS!!! (Os few gym leaders have 6, that's Elite 4 territory). If I am going with 6 teammates, maybe add 2 Dittos?

Cheap answer: A team of all Mew

Fun answer: A team of all Zorua and Zoroark, I would be the doppelganger gym leader who uses all the same Pokemon you do (or so you think).

More legit answer, that the games have more or less already done every single version: Dragons, but just to throw the curve ball in there my team would also consist of Charizard and Milotic, dragons that aren't dragon type, one pure dragon (like Dragonite) and a dragon that has a subtype (like Garchomp or Salamance).

I would advertise my Gym as the Fire Type gym, and when everyone shows up with 6 water Type Pokemon I'd reveal that I'm packing 6 electric types.

Just to be a dick.

Tough call, but for this thread, I think I'd go with Dragon-type Pokemon in a strength-testing maze with plenty of traps.

My Team:
- Salamence
-Fraxure
-Noivern
-Hydregion
-Salamence
-Druddigon

I'd go with a 'reptile' theme.

Arbok, Crocomaw, Sceptile and Charmeleon would be my pokemon. I would probably be the leader of a mid-level gym. Like...4~5. (Hence the 4 pokemon, rather than less or more.) Maybe a Grovyle instead of a Crocomaw.

The Gym's theme would be kind of like a swamp, with a small maze of paths to take.
