Steel types all the way! They hit hard and they play hard. My gym would be a series of small platforms which you have to link together to form a path to me, with multiple dead ends and a bit of backtracking required.
Since gym leaders never get to have more than 5 'mons, I'd have
Lvl 48 Lucario- To give challenges a curveball. I mean, who expects a STEEL type to be fast, frail and hard-hitting?
Lvl 48 Ferrothorn- It can use Leech Seed, Ingrain and its high defense to thoroughly annoy anyone who goes against it.
Lvl 50 Bronzong- I'd have it with Heatproof and Magnet Rise to get rid of my two most notable weaknesses, and Trick Room and Extrasesnory to sweep whole teams.
Lvl 51 Skarmory- Every Steel type specialist has one of these, its almost a law.
Lvl 53 Aggron- Not only is it a tank, but it can mega-evolve to make it even more powerful. By this point most challengers will just throw away their 3DS in frustration.
I'd include pictures, but I don't know how to copy-paste them onto a post or how to use a spoiler tag.
Sorry

Normal.

Only two Pokemon I'd use would be Porygon2 and PorygonZ. Toss you a TM for Tri-Attack if you manage to win.

Well, at least until the rematch. In which case I'd have a Level 100 Miltank that spams Rollout over and over again.

Whitney truly was the most traumatizing gym leader.

I would be a Ground trainer. (Gen 2.)

Diglet
Quagsire
Rhyhorn
Gligar
Graveller
Sandshrew

My Gym would be at the top of a fairly high mountain, with no path up to it, patrolled by scouts who will kick you out if they catch you littering or destroying the countryside, so you have to prove your worth by experiencing the outdoors and respecting the environment.

I think it's implied that gym leaders alter their team to match the skill level of their opponent. So they might use their weaker mons against a trainer who doesn't have any badges yet rather than the implication that certain gym leaders are somehow weaker than the local preschoolers in the next town.
Wow, now the games make a tonne more sense level-wise.

A bat-themed gym!:

I could mix-and-match between the different evolutionary levels of all those Pokemon depending on the skill levels of my challengers; that way, I'd get to have all the bats. My gym would be a pitch-dark cave maze, and beating me would award the winning trainer with the Chiro Badge; a black and purple badge shaped like a more adorable version of the Batman logo.

I would have an Arctic theme ( water/ Ice) and have pokemon you would expect to see in a cold setting.
Samurott
Beartic
Walrein
Dewgong
Stoutland (as in those rescue dogs)
and Avalugg.

I'd be a Steel-themed Gym leader, but I'd also have my team be themed around medieval knights. I'd also be packing a full roster, so without further ado...

The Sword Pokemon. It could also be construed and both sword and shield, but I have a shield Pokemon, as you will see.

Ability: Stance Change
Moves:
Sacred Sword
Iron Head
Shadow Claw
Swords Dance

The Shield Pokemon. Massive defensive capabilities, as well as able to put a hurt on your Pokemon.

Ability: Sturdy
Moves:
Rest
Toxic
Metal Burst
Iron Head (Armor Crash, if this were a real Gym)*

The Helmet Pokemon. Great offensive potential.

Ability: Overcoat
Moves:
X-Scissor
Iron Head
Aerial Ace
Swords Dance

The Body Armor Pokemon. Versatile Pokemon that can battle Ground type users.

Ability: Sturdy
Moves:
Steel Wing (Armor Crash, if this were a real gym)*
Brave Bird
Rock Slide
Roost

The Leg Armor Pokemon. The all-around, versatile Pokemon.

Ability: Defiant
Moves:
Surf
Ice Beam
Drill Peck
Earthquake

The Gauntlet Pokemon. Fast, offensive Pokemon with great coverage.

Ability: Steadfast
Moves:
Drain Punch
Ice Punch
Stone Edge
Psychic

After my defeat, I would gladly present the Trainer with an awesome Knight badge and this TM:

Armor Crash
Power: *
Accuracy: 95
Type: Steel, Physical

The Pokemon that uses this move deals more damage the higher its Physical Defense is against its opponent's defense. Bonus damage is granted if the user weighs more than the opponent.

Since Steel types are typically slow, this move would allow slower, defensive Pokemon to gain an upper hand by using its weaknesses to its advantage!

I'd probably go with Dark as my gym type, since there has yet to be one in any of the games. I'd be the 8th leader in the region and give out Payback for my TM.

1.) Umbreon: Payback, Toxic, Quick Attack, Protect
2.) Weavile: Night Slash, Ice Punch, Aerial Ace, Ice Shard
3.) Scrafty: Faint Attack, Brick break, Rock Slide, Payback
4.) Tyranitar: Rock Slide, Aerial Ace, Payback, Earthquake

I'd have to pick Dark types because COME ON GAMEFREAK! GIVE US A DARK TYPE GYM ALREADY!

As for my theme, I'd have to say mine would probably put my gym in the upper echelons of dick moves, at least for this series. See, everyone else in my gym would be using pokemon of the fighting and poison types. A number of people would be confused, but would probably write it off and just bring a team of Psychics to sweep. Then they get to me, and their entire team has become a liability. The only real hint you'd get would come from that guy at the front of the gym that I like to play dirty tricks on people.

The gym itself would be a maze with multiple ways out, but my trainers would end up blocking the most direct paths to me, forcing the challengers to go through EVERYONE, leaving their pokemon tired by the time they got to me.

As for my team, I'd have a max of five and use:

1. Absol

2. Houndoom

3. Bisharp

4. Pangoro

5. Mega Gyarados just for that extra screw you.

Factoring in standard gym roster rules (no more than five pokemon, no legendaries, no fully-evolved 600 BST non-legends, no Megas thus far, rosters must be 100% composed of fanmade pokemon...), I'd probably go for a Ghost gym:

Cofagrigus
Gourgeist (Extra-Large)
Golurk
Chandelure
Aegislash

Ends up looking more like an E4 roster than even an eighth gym roster, but I can live with that: lets me showcase all of my favorite ghosties (I have a soft spot for the more recent Ghosts: if I could have a full team of 6, Jellicent would probably get the edge for the last spot over stuff like Rotom, Sableye, and Gengar). Between Cofagrigus, Golurk, and Aegislash, I could probably come up with a convincing ancient/haunted-castle sort of motif for the gym, where trainers would have to run around trying to find hidden switches behind suits of armor and stuff. Gym TM would be Phantom Force or a new physical Ghost attack, since most of my team is physically oriented.

(If I actually could use fanmade mons for my gym, I'd probably go with a Fairy gym: fanmade Fairy-types put most of the canon ones to shame, since a lot of them take the opportunity to draw from mythology and fairy tales, rather than just being a bunch of generic pinkish things.)

[HEADING=2]TOKEN NEW GEN POKEMON GOES HERE[/HEADING]

Slaking would obviously be the toughest nut to crack with Giga Impact. ;)

The rematch team would be hell. ^.^

Gym design?

Hmmm...

I'm kind of thinking it would be on the top floor of a tower, with office cubicles you have to navigate filled with trainers. The ascent to where I am located would be a ladder. I'd be on the roof, taking a break from running my company. I'd be a trainer who had started a company after losing to the E4 or something and kept battling.

"It's been a while since someone has climbed my corporate ladder to challenge me. Hahaha, you look quite determined. Don't let our surroundings confuse you, I'm still a trainer at heart. Now show me what you've learned!"

*lose*

"Well done! I've let myself get soft being in the office for so long. Take this badge as proof of your victory."

*badge given*

"I started this company after traveling around and watching how Pokemon enjoy berries. Our products are safe for both people and Pokemon to enjoy together! Oh, before I forget, take this TM. It's something I made during off hours."

TM 62 - Something new

"You've inspired me to resume my own travels. JANET! You're in charge until I get back!"

*leaves roof down a fire escape*

Then I would open up the ferry to the next area by paying for damaged cable that Team ____ destroyed.

I love this question. :>

Gym design is the hardest part... let's see...
Oh! I'm thinking something that emulates The Abyss from Dark Souls.
Picture an entirely black room, with a crystal-clear, pristine glass floor. Glass sculptures rise from beneath the floor, somewhat resembling how thread appears close-up - twisted strings of rough glass - and through them a low, purple light shines through, refracting light to various specific points of the gym.

I guess the gym would be a very simple maze in structure, with the rays of purple light giving you indication of where to go, and highlighting some trainers along the way, but otherwise you're completely unable to see. For the shortcut back, I guess you could walk on the sculpture.

If you haven't guessed by now, the typing would be either Ghost or Dark... I'm gonna go for Ghost for variety.

Sableye, Froslass, Rotom, Chandelure and Aegislash.
Chandelure and Aegislash would depend on the level of the gym. ~40 would be 6th or 7th gym or so.
As such, I shall give you the TM for boring, old Shadow Ball as the only other Ghost TM is Shadow Claw, and that sucks... Also, it's traditional for Gym Leaders to use the TM they give you in battle, and my team would make much better use of Shadow Ball.

AI opponents aren't great with Aegislash, but I hope that King's Shield and Shadow Sneak would be enough to make it enough of a threat to be the final pokemon.
Everything else does what you would expect.

All in all, a fairly standard gym. Nothing too spectacular puzzle-wise, but at least it's not basic math problems.

Ghost Type

3 Pumpkaboos

Small, Medium, Large,

and a Super-Size Gourgeist.

I always had a soft spot for Yellow's Koga who spammed Venonats and finished with a Venomoth.

The gym itself would be a tacky haunted house with multiple floors with false stairs and false doors. The male trainers would be dressed as fake doors. The girl trainers would be dressed up as fake stairs. There would also be little kids "trick or treating" that you could battle. The rare candy jokes write themselves.

I'd give them TM30 Shadow Ball and the Pumpkin badge.

Hmm. Maybe a better gym theme would be a monster mash setup. Y'know it would be a ball.

The trainers would be dancing.

The team of Dean, leather-jacketed trainer of Dark-types and holder of the Rogue Badge and a TM for Starry Night*, which he makes good use of against you along with Dark Pulse and Parting Shot:

Furthering the theme, have a poorly-lit and run-down looking Gym with all of the trainers (Bikers, Burglars, Gamblers, etc.) hiding behind walls and doors to sneak attack you.

*- Field-affecting move. Day turns to night and cancels out the move 'Sunny Day'. For 5 turns, the accuracy of all non-Dark type moves is decreased by 35%. Can be reversed by Sunny Day.

The gym itself would have two main rooms. One is where the trainer can challenge the trainers of my gym to a game of chess, and whomever wins gets the first turn in the following Pokemon battle. Or the Pokemon themselves for fun with no battle after. My chamber would be a dark room where my throne rests at the back of the room. All that could be seen would be me and my throne. The throne would be glowing white with purple edges. I would be wearing a simple pure white very long-sleeved shirt, black cotton gloves, pure black pants, and white military-style boots. And I would have extremely long black hair, I'm talking about down to my knees in the back, and down to my stomach in the front, that parted to reveal one eye, my nose, and my mouth. (I'm a guy by the way.)

I would have a Psychic type Gym. And my team for the gym would be around level 40. I would hold the Wisdom Badge, and would be giving out a TM for Psybeam. My entire schtick would be that I looked up to the various Psychic gym leaders in the world that were stronger than me, and hoped to challenge them one day.

If I was a gym leader, my team would consist of:

If I was part of the Elite Four on the other hand, I would have accomplished my goal of defeating every Psychic gym leader and moved on with my Pokemon's training. My room would be identical to my gym's room, but would include glowing black and white statues of my team leading up to my throne, as well as glowing black and white statues of me in the corners.

My design would be changed to include a haircut (only down to my shoulder-blades and chin) and a silk white cape that had my gym badge's symbol woven into it.

My team would be at an appropriate level and consist of:

The Gardevoir would be the main and strongest of them. As shown by being last on the list each time. They would go out in order, and would never be a level under the last one sent out.
