My normal clothes, a kitchen knife, and my really sharp close combat screwdriver... I'm just using what I have here at home.
If I can get anything, I'd get a... Gundam with a bag of Lays barbecue chips.

well if its world war z zombies, then a 10 gauge shotgun would be horribly overpowered, but i'd say a .22 rifle, or an israeli made tavor and a steel baseball bat or axe.

what i have within reach right now... 3 katana a lowlander's claymore(slaughter sword), a suit of chainmaille and a pair of heavy steel toed boots... i'd hit up a "sporting goods" store for a .308 rifle and a .22 because the 308 has good penetration and could likely kill more than one in a row... and the .22 is a guaranteed brain scrambler if you get a head shot since it cannot penetrate more than one layer of bone without losing momentum and solidity... in otherwords it'll shatter on skull penetration and make the brain within into soup... fun stuff... also .22 ammo is hella light and easy to carry alot of it... the .308 is for longer range more than anything... has a higher velocity and higher mass projectile...also the slaughter sword has hella range due to a long solid blade... and since the blade length is good i could hew multiple zombies per swing... maximizing damage should i become surrounded at any time... also try to bite through chainmail you won't succeed... sure i would get some bruises... but the leather under it would keep the rings from gouging me and it's sturdy stuff...

I know alotta people ***** and moan about the weight... but i've trudged for 5+ hours in heavier stuff with a loaded backpack... and other stuff before... and i woulda kept walking steadily at the pace i was going if i hadn't been interrupted by someone i knew offering me a ride... heh... yeah... travel by foot is easy enough... of course i wouldn't be goin all the way on foot... i have a big heavy car... it's run over bolted down mailboxes and suffered very little damage... so i doubt a zombie would hurt it much if i ran one over...or a dozen... or more...

so yeah...

Ranged: Anything I can fucking find or my step dad the ex cop, Marine snippier, and hunter. No really, he's the guy you want to have with you when the zombies attack, plus he's a lock smith so he can break into any building and then make it safe.
Melee: My katana or a steel bow staff. Why both have a wide range and they're light but effective.
Clothes: I'm not going to change into anything special for zombies. I'd grab a jacket, put on one of my pair of Converse because it's not a heavy shoe and run. My pants have belt loops so I can fit my katana threw it.

A hatchet, a bolt action, my old leather jacket and my jeans. Would readily replace axe for claymore if one was available.

Because of ease of use, availability, and badassery; the only criteria that need considering.

Ranged: 9mm Pistol (Due to abundance of common stock ammo)

Melee: I have a ton of combat worthy blades of various sizes and intended function from a Claymore, to a shortsword, to a knife. Utility as well as effectiveless.

Clothing: I make chain armor...I am rolling with that. Heavy, but no way they are getting through it. I can maintain it, alter it, etc as needed. I've seen a lot of people call out kevlar, but as I am aware they dont make 100% body coverage for it. Moreover, a kevlar vest wieghs more than a chain one (Ive worn both) so I can only imagine what full body would be like. And GOD the HEAT of a full body kevlar, where I live it is seldom sunny so that isnt a problem with chain.

Best of all, all these things (except the pistol) I already have in my room.

My roommate's response to this was "Nothing, I am joining the zombies...looks like I have easy prey reading some of these responses."

I am eventually going to turn this idea into a movie.

Clothing: Santa costume.
Reason: I dress up as Santa for Christmas every year now and that suit provides great protection. It's light but thick and won't come off easy, plus it covers up nearly every part of my body from head to tow with good material and sturdy boots. Also i have a good pair of gloves to put on. It may get a little hot but i can deal with that easily.

Melee: Battle Axe and shield
Reason: Why the hell not?! If you could dress up as Santa and kill zombies with a battle axe and shield wouldn't you?

Range: Fog Horn
Reason: If zombies are real I'm just going to draw all the attention to me that i can so i can give everyone else time to escape. I may get overwhelmed and die, but damn if it wouldn't be a blast!

I am eventually going to flesh out a movie script about this. Wish me luck!

please...

i think one thing people always forget is the fact that cutting wepons wont work as well
likek if you have a bat and you miss you can still hit the other areas with large stopping power but with a blade youll just slice through and get bitten

Ranged:
My remington 7615, pump action carbine in .223. Why? Mainly because I actually own one, so this isn't a hypothetical choice. Mine will soon have a high powered torch attached to it as well which is handy.

In an ideal world, I'd have my sporting handguns license and something like a semi-automatic 9mm or a revolver in .38 (they're common sporting calibres in Australia) to back this up

Melee:
The crowbar I keep in the back of my car, long reach and sturdy. Also useful for looting. My KABAR combat knife for real up close and personal (say a zombie is on top of me).

Clothing:
Depending on the weather, but one or more layers of clothing underneath a sturdy leather oilskin jacket I own, jeans and gloves.

Ideal situation a full set of motorbike gear and helmet.

As for clothes, I don't think it's going to make much of a difference, and in the event of Zombie Apocalypse you aren't going to have much of a choice. But I would make sure I had warm clothes, because I'm going to head north so I can take a bit of a break when the zombies freeze in winter.
Really? I think clothes make a huge difference, especially in scenarios when there's only one or two zombies (you're boned if there's dozens). A leather jacket could stop a bite to a forearm, a gloved hand could be used to push a zombie head away from your face and allow you to stab/shoot/smash it's head. Some sturdy pants tucked and then taped into solid boots could stop a crawling zombie from biting your leg. Plus the amount of pockets, pouches etc helps too.

I've heard all the argument for .22 rimfire, but I'm really not sold on the idea, in the chaos and confusion it's not going to be easy to score a headshot, hell it's not easy to score one when calmly hunting, and that is what you'll need to kill a zombie with it. At least a shot gun or something in centre fire, will knock back or slow a zombie for a second if you miss (hell a shotgun you'd probably only have to hit in the upper parts of the chest/lower neck to kill a zombie).

The only rimfire gun I'd accept would be a semi-automatic pistol to be used point blank, basically touching it to the forhead and squeezing two off just to be sure.

For my ranged weapons i would use a 10 gauge barrel fed pistol grip shotty. The melee would have to be a trench knife or a steel bat and for clothing i would wear Kevlar riot gear

Reasons: Nothing is going to stand up agaisnt a 10 gauge shotty, the trench has brass knucks easy for busting teeth and stabbin in the head or back of the neck, kevlar gear is cuz....well if a bullet cant go thro it i doubt teeth can!
Your body won't last that long either. 10 gauge is very harsh on the body. Stick with 12 gauge.

You want to travel light and have enough ammo to take care of business. Ammo is primary all else is secondary.

It is stupid to allow threats to get into melee range especially if you have range weapon(s). That's mean no carrying swords, ax, and any heavy melee weapons. It just weight you down.

1. My AR15 SBR (Short Barrel Rifle)
2. My Glock 19
3. Chest Rig that holds at least 6 AR15 and 2 Glock 19 magazines
4. Knife
5. Trauma kit.

I'd wear nothing an Iron Man suit (I know he got zombified in Marvel Zombies but he was against Super Heroe Zombies!) a never-stopping Lawnmower (anyone know where this is from?) and for weapon a never ending Minigun.

Seriously though, tight ass clothes, a lawn mower tied to my chest so the blades are on my chest and 1 tied to my back and chainsaws tied to my hands.

Ultimate Win

I've been into the whole zombie "thing" since well before it became cool again, so suffice to say I've given this a lot of thought.

I'm reading through these posts, and thinking "Well, there's certainly going to be a lot of cool-looking, well-armed zombified corpses lol".

Let's look at things "realistically" for a moment. Even soldiers and LEOs with plenty of weapons training have trouble reliably hitting a moving target with a handgun, let alone hitting it in the head. And if you are close enough to get a reliable head-shot, you're too damn close to begin with. I'd still try and get my hands on a pistol though, considering it's relative light-weight and small size, but more for potential problems with trouble-making survivors than the zombies.

A longer-range weapon isn't a bad idea. Sometimes, taking out a few Zs at range to secure an area will likely be necessary. .22 ammo is easy to come by and lightweight, and one rifle between 2-3 people is probably enough.

"Melee" weapons. You should never be this close to the Zs in the first place. However, accidents happen and people let their guard down - everyone's human (until they get turned into a slavering ghoul, anyway). Machetes/swords I'm honestly envisaging as being pretty useless. You aren't some ninja bad-ass, and most likely can't completely hack off a zombie's limbs/head with one clean strike. Furthermore - how is the zombie virus transmitted? Through the bite is pretty obvious, but what if it's carried in their blood too? Hacking at them and ending up with a Zs hand-stump spraying you (and maybe your buddies too) with infected blood is gonna put an end to your non-undeadness in a hurry. I'm thinking a baseball bat, for simple blunt-force trauma/fending off abilities, or a hatchet (especially if you know the blood doesn't carry the infection) as being most practical. Remember, you only ever engage the Zs at this range if it's absolutely necessary. If you can run - just do that instead.

As for clothing - I think the OP had the right idea. Biking gear - kevlar and leather. Steel-toed boots. Shin guards, knee guards, arm guards, even shoulder pads if you can find them. You'll look like an extra from The Road Warrior, sure, but if that's what it takes to survive... One of those chain-mail-like anti-shark diving suits would seem ideal, but I don't honestly know where you'd find one.

ETA: Combat knives for everyone in the party, for sure. But more for its myriad of non-killing things uses.
