The other day I was thinking about my home country Australia, and then I was thinking about what I really hate about it. Personally I really hate the politics here, the politicians spend all there time either talking about why they're good or why their opponent is shit and never get anything done.

So Escapists, what country are you from? And what don't you like about your country?

I'm American and I hate that so many people here think it's the only country on the planet. I also hate that everyone else hates us.

Our government (I live in Canada) can't do anything positive, if it ever does anything at all. It also abuses the hell out of our natural resources, or lets corperations abuse them.

Australia: Honestly...the people here. Especially those over 30 are so damn ignorant and stupid.

It drives me crazy seeing it. They are idiotic racists that actually believe that the Prime minister has complete power.

No one realises that for a law to pass both parties have to agree to it as well as the Governor-General. So so stupid.

Oh yeah, they also believe all the Muslims are coming to Aus and trying to take over...When its honestly a tiny percentage.

Argh...So much rage...must resist urge to rant and kill.

EDIT: I see a lot of Aus hate popping up in this thread.

Well, I don't believe in stereotypes, but I believe more then 50% of the American population is stupid.

Also, we complain about how no one in our country is healthy, but they don't shut down the fried butter stands in Iowa?

The drunk lunatic culture of Australia really bugs me, one of the few stereotypes that is close to the truth. That and the Australia Day stuff, I try to distance myself from that but it's hard not to lose faith in this country when you see people wearing signs saying "Fuck off, we're full" on a day that is supposed to commemorate us becoming a nation. A nation started by people brought over from another country. Go figure...

I guess I hate the small population of idiots in our country that the rest of us get lumped in with.
And our government is one big shit storm of non stop bickering and zero problem solving.
I'm talking about America, BTW.

I think that politics is going to be a very popular answer in this thread. It seems like politicians in general are more interested in keeping their positions of power or preventing their opponents from gaining a position of power than they are in actually doing stuff to help their fellow citizens out.

Aside from the aforementioned politics, I dislike how certain school systems seem to care more about athletics and sports than they do about academics. I also dislike the general disdain that many people seem to have towards reading.
Almost forgot to mention that I am an American who actually enjoys reading (sometimes choosing a book over t.v. or videogames).

'MERIKUH, **** YEAH!'

*ahem*

I hate our flags design. It's too... basic. I want a dragon or something cool, dammit. Wales totally scored on that front, let me tell ya. Say what you want about them, their flag is badass.

Australia. I don't enjoy how we are handling the situation at the moment with the asylum seekers and refugees. Maybe it is just me, but when was it a crime to seek asylum in a country, or to come to a neighbouring country as a refugee when the situation in your own deteriorates? It just seems like people don't care anymore.

I hate the media. Particularly my local news station, I can't remember the last time they reported a story that was actually important. I'm not sure how many times they've reported a story about a deer wandering into a restaurant over the years, I know they've done it at least three times. It's for stuff like that that I get all my news from the internet.

America. Politicians. I hate at least 80% of them. I vote for them, they break their promises and fuck up my life. I have friends overseas that tell me it's the same over there. I believe them, but Americans are trained from birth to hate politicians, so maybe it's just a personal bias.

America: Other than the usual political statements, a lot of people in general can be rather ignorant. Racists...sexists...anti-semitics. I can't stand gangs, and people who negatively stereotype other nationalities. I honestly wish we could all just get along, as cliche' as it sounds.

I'm tired of all these wars as well -_-

The school system needs work it seems. School funding is usually the first on the cutting board when the state governments need to cut costs.

I found some of the posts here to be very interesting. We're not really...formally educated in school on the social and political feelings/tensions/opinions in other nations, but I find that sort of stuff to be enlightening.

I live in Canada and one thing I don't like about my country is our system of government (and the people running it). For one thing it's over 100 years out of date and designed to govern and area a hell of a lot smaller then Canada currently occupies. Representation by Population DOES NOT WORK PEOPLE!! And people wonder why western Canada always feels so alienated.
Also whoever came up with the idea of having a senate where the senators are appointed by the Prime Minister must've had a few drinks too many, because the senate are essentially glorified 'yes' men. ...that is when they even bother to show up. ¬_¬

I hate to echo the masses here, but I hate the US Congress. They are so incompetent it's not even funny to joke about anymore. It's just sickening to me. We need to elect Samuel L. motha fuckin' Jackson as President, cause I know he won't take any of their bullshit.

"AND YOU WILL KNOW MY NAME IS THE LORD, WHEN I LAY MY VETO UPON THEE!"

Aside from that, America ain't so bad. A lotta people over-reacting to damn near everything, but you learn to filter it out after a while.
