Skyrim Names:
Havilstein the Rune-Weaver (Havilstein is my highest-level Pathfinder (a dwarf evoker wizard) character and the name was one of the Dark Brotherhood targets (Havilstein Hoar-Blood) in Oblivion. In Skyrim he's a nord wizard.)
Jorundr the Punchmaster (Utilizing Robbaz's Unarmed Viking guide [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhBiNx749Zw], Jorundr is the unarmed viking punchmaster. He's a Nord and the name Jorundr was from another NPC in ES4 (the nord in the Bruma jail).)
Santos a'Beckett (Imperial bowman named after my second Pathfinder character, my rogue. Santos is just a cool name and a'Beckett comes from one of the Archbishops of (I think) Canterbury.)

In almost every RPG where I can create my own character I have a rotating set of names I use. I see those characters as reincarnations of the previous namesake like Link/Zelda/Gannondorf.

1. Dweera: Usually a rogue or hand-to-hand fighter. Stealthy yet able to get in your face as well. Also likes to pick off unsuspecting folk from the shadows with ranged weaponry til she's discovered. Tends to also stab people in their sleep.

2. Damiana: The Gannon of my tales. When she is born, the world falls to darkness.

I won't share all of them though. Those are just two of many.

Jack.
And... Jack
And uuuh... Jack.
Oooh, there was also Jack.
And last but not least, Jack.

5 points for guessing my name.
Is it Greg?
OT:
I usually just name them something simple, like Riverr(two r's not a typo). If they're a character that's sort of tribal indian like I name them Kahyonhowanen. Cause I can.

I keep telling this story every time but it amuses me sooooooooo

In Fallout NV for no real reason I named my courier Shepard (no guesses as to where I got that from)

so I was walking along randomly, having clocked quite a few hours and I talked to a Ranger...where I had the option to say "the names Shepard.."

WHAAAAA!!?? WHERE DID THAT COME FROM- oh thats right I names her that....duh

Being that I'm about to go to college for game design, and that's what I've always wanted to do, I usually actually role play/ make stories and personalities for my characters in RPGs.

For example, Cerith was a redguard mercenary who narrowly escaped a botched operation in Hammerfell, hopping the border into skyrim to avoid incarceration. Not used to the arctic conditions, she meandered around lost a bit before being captured. She did not return to hammerfall at first because of the trouble she'd gotten into, but later because of her duties as dragonborn, duties that helped her re-examine her life and become a more honorable warrior. During her journeys of self-discovery, she learned magic at the college of winterhold to better discipline herself, as she was having difficulties with her dragonborn training.

When I create a character I particularly like, such as Cerith, I sketch them, make some notes about them, and save them for later use in my own stories, usually adding on to them.

For example, while this would not mesh with Elder Scrolls Lore well, elsewhere I'd have Cerith Shardspine be a half-dragon.

Just something ironic. Like my Argonian, who was named Bound-By-Fate as a nod to the troubles of being a video game protagonist.

surg3n, always the same name.
I tend to play these games as a back-stabbing douche-bag who'll use any trick in the book to loot anything worth looting.

Same goes for DayZ, you see surg3n running around, well I might not kill you, but I'll steal your vehicle, raid your tent, and do anything to survive.

My skyrim characters are almost exclusively dunmer females, with various dunmer names. With the right mods they look a nice mixture of evil/sexy which is nice, and the flame resistance and ancestor power are quite overpowered.
Combine with frost resist armor, magicka rings and robbaz's stupid overpowered unarmed build for what is effectively a super soldier before electricity was invented. Like samus, only you can get her tits out more often.

My 2 new vegas characters were a stealth, snipe focus'd girl (Saria) and a tank, power armor wielding guy (Reave). Complete opposites, and i honestly preferred the sniper because you can oddly use it at all ranges, from the view distance limit to point blank.

Called an FO3 character 'Player One' in the past, just because.

I name my character in Fallout Ryder most of the time, for a primary. And in NV I always get the broken slave collar and wear it always.

The first character in all these games, I name Walker.
Though given my propensity towards not being seen I really should call them Croucher or some shite.

After that? Sky's the limit.

Sadly my imagination is strictly street-level, so I tend to name them after things I find on my desk. I wouldn't be surprised if I had characters named Para, Ceta, and Mol.

Skyrim:
Ryo Draconi (Dark Elf) - So named because "Ryo" means dragon in Japanese, seemed appropriate.
Bianca Four-Star (Nord) - named after Bianca from Dragon Quest V.

Persona 3:
Matthew - one of the rare times I've actually used my real name.

Oblivion, Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout 3:
I don't remember, I've had several characters for each of those respective games.

My New Vegas character was named Mara Leibowitz. Mara after Mara Jade and more directly after my first Shepard, Leibowitz after the titular saint in the post-apocalyptic novel A Canticle for Leibowitz.

I believe your thinking of Thomas a'Beckett, Archbishop of Cantebury, famously murdered by soldiers who believed it would please their King.

ahh, my names
Raldur Farstrider
Nuldarel the Tainted
Delm Fatecleaver
and Augustus Alesius are my characters

I actually just got finished doing a little bit of Fallout NV, so I can answer this relatively easily. This current character I named Romana. My first character in this game and Skyrim both shared the name Danica. No real reason, I just like the names.

Oblivion:
Silly Willy

Fallout New Vegas:
Hardy Tim (A guy with glasses, muttonchops and minigun)

And other times I just go with whatever strikes me as good sounding.
I sometimes stick to Rogdar, for warriors in fantasy RPGs, and Furinax for mages.

In fantasy games I use Chaminuka, a shona spirit medium who was a leader in the Zimbabwean rebellion against the British. In Fallout I am Bass Reeves the first black US marshal, He arrested over 3000 felons and was renown for his epic mustache and quickdraw.
