I hadn't been much of a gamer till I found the MGS games, and since, I've followed Kojima, Suda 51 and Shinji Mikami. So if you know anything about these people, you'll know, I like story driven games that mess with your head. I love braid, silent hill 2 (even with the bad combat), but I'm too lazy to find out who made them.
But to the point, I play games 80% for story and art value, 10% for graphics and 10% for the "GAME PART OF THE ****ING GAME".
So why do you play games?

The first game I ever played was a JRPG, followed by action games but once i branched out I discovered how great a good story could be. For example my favorite games of all time are Mass Effect and KOTOR

The first game i played was police and thief on Atari, it was for entertainment. .

As i grew older i came to appreciate games much more than for entertainment alone. The story of a game, the ease of play, the graphics, the mood it puts me in or out of, the whole interactivity. .Gotta Love 'em

gameplay. and story. it's like watching a movie or reading a book, except you control the action. makes you feel so much more involved. games are also a great way to unwind after a long day

It's just fun. Plain and simple. But what I like most about games is their ability to convey a message and story unlike other recreational activities outside of TV, Books, and Movies.

I'm going to be honest: riding horses. Insane stuff right there. I used to ride, and since I've been forced to stop, some of my favourite games remain Legend of Zeldas with Epona, Shadow of the Colossus, Assassin's Creed.. It's a guilty pleasure.

And to redeem myself a little, I'm going to add the immersion. I love when a game makes me feel something, makes me love a character or hate one for their actions.

To lose myself.

To escape my world on a dime, to ride the vast plains of Hyrule, to have my heart pulse as a horde of undead rush towards me, to feel the life slide between my fingers as I slit a man's throat.

I play games to be someone else.

I like how it takes up lots of time and is fun. For example: I have two before 'X' appointment, what do I do? Play a little 360, of course!

I'm a character illustrator so for me it's the characters in games that get me interested. The art has to look good too. Whenever I get my mits on a video game cartridge insert or the strategy guide even the official website, I immediately head over to the characters section.

I'm probably on the other side of the spectrum as you.

What sets video games apart from movies and books is how it is interactive, and video games should focus on "The GAME part of the ***king game" instead of trying to be something it's not. Video games will never have the potential for story telling as much as movies or books because they have to balance story and gameplay.

Basically, I'm trying to politely say, "If you want a story, go read a book!"

I play for the story, challenge, competition and ideas. You never realize how kick ass something is until you kick its ass, which is why its not the gameplay that I am 100 percent worried about, its the effort and thought that I care for. Oh, and the art design. game designers make some pretty awesome shit, and they should keep thinking drawing and using the beforementioned awesome shit.

I can't quite put my finger on it. It's been there for me. I've always played games for fun. I always will, I guess. It's just what I do. Love it.
