I remember seeing it, but nothing of it.

I have it DVRed currently and plan to get to watching it eventually.

Planet Bob AKA Earth 2.

I have the movie, it's fantastic but as I recall it didn't do well in theaters for some reason.

Well, it wasn't COMPLETELY bad, but it was trying REALLY hard to be a western-made anime and simply didn't have what it takes. They threw in gratuitous violence and nudity and there were some eye-popping set pieces, but the plot overall was pretty lame and Corso's betrayal in particular was one of the worst plot twists ever because it was out of nowhere, had NO foreshadowing and frankly didn't make a lot of sense. Besides, the drej/dredge were an interesting IDEA, but as villains they had absolutely no character. Compared to most of the better sci-fi anime movies (AKIRA, Ghost in the Shell Memories, Paprika), it simply didn't hold a candle.

I have a soft spot for this movie, even though it couldn't quite decide if it wanted to be aimed at kids, adults, or teens. The result is somewhat schizo, but in an endearing way. I think the blend of traditional and computer animation actually worked pretty well, and the voice talent the film courted provided a surprising depth of emotion. If the film had been a little more focused, it probably could have acquired a stronger following.

Went the way most movies with a good closed story line go. I actually prefer that noone tried to come up with a sequel.
I'm gonna have to agree here, a sequel would have ruined it.

OT: It was a Cosmic Castaway that really didn't get as much attention as it deserved

favorite character: Gune- the crazy scientist guy "I finished my nap!"
favorite ship: the Valkyrie- I agree, it was a really sexy ship.
favorite scene: the slave pens- "an intelligent guard, didn't see that one coming."
favorite thing overall: I have yet to find a scientific detail they completely messed up on, the whole thing could have worked (admittedly, they didn't usually go into a whole lot of detail)

What happened to it? Saw it, bought it, shelved it, watched it again periodically. Really, what else is there to say? It was a decent enough movie, pissed me off that they hyped it with the song "Higher" in every trailer, then never had the song in the film, but meh. Actually, the most notable thing about the show (aside from how awesome Stith was), is the music. Pretty good music, still have the MP3s kickin around somewhere.
Yeah, that was the thing that made me go watch it in the first place, the soundtrack was just so awesome. Generally, I have pretty good memories of that film.

I have a copy of Titan AE, but I didn't pay more than $5 for it, and I wouldn't recommend anyone else pay more than that either. The movie is okay, I just think most of the voice acting sounds like they're sedated or something. One thing with all Don Bluth films is that the visuals seem to take precedence over good characters and story telling. I always have this sense of distance from the characters in his works.

You must be talking about a different Titan A.E, because the one I spent ten bucks to watch in a theater was utter pedestrian crap. I've seen the movie about three or four more times since then, but I still couldn't tell you anything about it because its characters and storyline are as original and as remarkable as a bowl of porridge at the Quaker Oats factory.

It doesn't surprise me about its deviantart following, though. Remember Rule 34.

Recall though, this is from a guy that ReBoot was awesome computer anim.
That's because it was and so are you.
The first season was good, at any rate. After that it sort of fell into slog.

because when it came no one saw it because it came out 2000 and was aobut the end of the world yet marketed at children. 200 was a happy time pre 9/11 and people didn;t like to think about bad things durring a happy time. Oh and it only made half of what it cost to make.

If you're asking as to why it hasn't been heard of much... it's because it had so little presence. It was barely advertised, and appeared to suffer from an identity crisis. Was it for kids or adults? Could it offer something for both? I think if it had effective advertisements that showed what the movie was actually about, and and had aired the commercials a little more often than on three separate occasions and a DVD trailer, then it could've gained at least something.
And don't go by dART for fanbases... you can find enough of just about anything on there.
Then again, most steampunk/scifi/space opera type movies suffer the same fate. Disney had Atlantis: the Lost Empire, as well a Treasure Planet.
Although I did like Atlantis. Especially the part with the corsages.
Then again, anything by Don Bluth has got to be a bit... off-target.
Anyways, it's on my list of movies to see somewhere, including Stranger than Fiction and Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

As a kid, that movie rocked my friggin' world. I was thoroughly impressed the first time through, and still watch it from time to time. Despite the mild violence, I always saw it as a kid's movie. I heard that the main reason it didn't do so well in theaters was because it wasn't clear what age group the movie targeted. That, and it was released on the same day of another more well-known movie. I forgot what, though.

HA! Dude! That was a great movie!

I remember Preed's death scene introduced me to the concept of neck-breaking. I saw it the first time and was like "What just happened? Why did he go all limp??"

You just determined what movie I'm watching tonight.

I really enjoyed it. Even bought the soundtrack. I can see why people didn't like it. Does anyone know anything about the comic? If it was a comic, I had heard it was, but not confirmed.

Used to be one of my fave movies back when I first saw it. And here I thought I was the only one. Ah, so many memorable quotes...

"I do an honest day's work; I want already dead food!"

"This is just great. Cross half the galaxy, nearly get our butts shot off by the Drej just so we can rescue the window washer..."

And one of my faves:

"The probe? Where does the probe go?..."
