Neverwinter Nights, period. It's PnP in video game form.

Anyone else find it kinda funny nobody recommends SW:TOR?

This.

I always have a lot of fun adapting characters from other franchises and recreating them in SPECIAL. My favourite so far has got to be Hannibal Lecter, because the first time I played through the game I was a good guy who sided with the NCR and did generally good things despite the odd theft and pickpocketing, so playing as a cannibalistic serial killer who doubled as a social chameleon with a sophisticated cuisine was quite refreshing especially when I got to New Vegas and acquainted myself with the White Glove Society. >:-D

The problem is that you can't really role play in single player games...seeing as how the NPCs won't role play with you. Sure, you can use your own imagination and create a personal backstory and personality and what-not for your character, but in the end you're just left playing with yourself.

Well, since you're listing MMOs, The Old Republic seems built for this. You can select your race without fear of choosing the "wrong one for your class" because race is just appearance and "social bonus ability". There are RP servers, too, though I don't play on them.

Not to mention being able to choose how quests end. One quest line involves killing a man's wife and her lover (a spy) but you can choose to let them live. Even the end of the quest gives you an option to betray the man's trust for some credits or maintain secrecy.

I can see way more potential for RPing in TOR than other MMOs. Even if you don't actively RP with other people, you can still create your character as you see fit. Why not be a Dark Jedi, a smuggler in it for Credits, or even a Light side Sith?

Wow, ill check a few of these games out, however when i meant Roleplaying i meant with a group of people, not in a game like skyrim with Roleplay elements i meant like the OTHER role-play. But ive been given some good choices here so ill check them all out. Also @tayh i started at 14 but quit for a bit because the community i was with was full of godmodders, metagamers, powergamers, and other undesirables.

You want alot of character options, play some Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura.

6 bucks at GOG. http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/arcanum_of_steamworks_and_magick_obscura
Hell yes! I thoroughly agree! Arcanum is an stounding game and can be very challenging! The premise itself is also very interesting.

Get a gog.com account anyway. They sell some of the best rpgs of all time! All at cheap prices!

I've been looking to get back into Role-Playing im quite casual about it and im not usually super heavy on rules so what would be a good game/mmo to start on? Keep in mind im only 15 so I can't spend a huge ammount of money. I am saving up for tabletop games that range from D&D to Warhammer:40k (tau).
i have roleplayed (or still rp on the following games)
Can't help you with the online stuff, but I can with tabletop.

Have you checked out Pathfinder Roleplaying game at paizo.com?

All their tabletop rules are free, online, on their webpage.

If you want pdfs or physical copies, those cost money, but you can play the game just fine with just their website. It's a great resource - particularly for those who can afford the books (or can only afford the core book).
