What's a Good Thief Book?

I need a book to add a few dollars to get free shipping from Amazon, and I was wondering if any of you know a good book about thievery. Medieval and steampunk are the kind of settings that capture my attention the most, so anything of the sort would be preferable.

Edit: Something in the lines of the Thief game series.

Well depends, For fantasy I would reccomend anything by robb hobb. Although by the sounds of it you might like the dark tower series by stephen king, starting book is called ''The gunslinger''.

Basically the adventures of the gunslinger through his world that is similar to our own but has ''Moved on''. Its a mixture of western, modern and post-apocalyptic with sci-fi and fantasy horror, romance etc.

Its very complicated but I HIGHLY reccomend that series if you havent read some already!.

Robin hobb has an amazing series called the farseer trilogy which is great but more assassin and typical fantasy than thievery.

Also if your into japanese styled storys then Lian Hearn's ''Across the nightingale floor'' Is another awesome first book in a series but once again more about assassinations and romance than thievery. About a young boy who lives with the hidden, A peaceful group of people who don't believe in violence, until his village is destroyed by a warlord and his people. He is then saved by the lord of the otori clan who despises the warlord as both clans are at war and upon finding out the boys father was one of the tribe a group of assassinations with supernatural abilitys, he trains to cross the nightingale floor and finish the warlord.

Hope these few suggestions help. Obviously they are better than I make them sound, Im pretty suck at describing things.

I had no idea that The Darktower series was like that; I have three books in that series but they've been at the bottom of my reading pile (I have over 100 books).

I'm uninterested in Japanese style anything, but I'll read up on some of Robin Hobb's books. Thank you.

The darktower books are extremely weird with different dimensions from different peroids of time, nuclear deserts, western styled towns with saloons to robot bears that seem to be from a distant future.

Worth.Every.Minute Of reading though.

I must say that the best series that I have read is the series by Megan Whalen Turner.

It comprises four books:

The Thief
The Queen of Attolia
The King of Attolia
A Conspiracy of Kings

They follow the adventures of Eugenides, a master thief and although the time period is similar to ancient Greece, the book takes place in a Byzantine-like civilization that includes more modern inventions such as glass window panes, pocket watches, telescopes, and printed books.

The plot, and characterisation are exceptional, and the interesting twists in the tale will keep you riveted. Seriously.

Buy these books. They are excellent.

The Darktower series is also very good, although it is rather heavy reading, and I found myself struggling to keep track of the various multiple realities and storyline. But if you have lost of time and concentration, go for it.

Raymond E Feist: Jimmy The Hand. Comes complete with a thieves guild and people knocking about on rooftops and in sewers. Traps, skuking and skullduggery galore.

I say buy Yahtzee's book "Mogworld". It has little to do with thievery or Steampunk, but it's quite good.

Also if it becomes a best seller then he may end up on those TV and radio shows about books, and that would be hilarious.

The Rangers Apprentice isnt that bad, I havent read the series in a while. (havent even finished it yet) Only problem is it might be a bit meh, since it borrows a lot of Ideas of the fantasy world from other things, but the rangers at least are pretty unique .

Thank you for the suggestions, and I think I'll go with both Megan Whalen Turner and the Robin Hobb books. I might get a book from each in a few days.

Adversary of Sherlock Holmes in one book, and probably the Most Triumphant Example for things that started the idea of the Gentleman Thief.
