I find that the longer I play Battlefield the more I type bg rather than gg at the end of a game.
Seriously Sometimes I question whether my entire team are just chihuahuas trying to eat the controllers; the capture of flags is an unknown, strange alien concept to most people nowadays.

BG PTFO noobs indeed.

"GG" is sort of like the post match handshake between the winner and the loser captain. It's sportsmanship. Look it up. If you're the one who lost you're acknowledging the skill and fortune of the winner. If you're winner you're acknowledging that the loser did the best they could with the cards they were dealt.
That's the idealist version of the concept. But just as often it's a condescending way to gloat. A lot of times "GG" comes out before the game is technically over, which is another way of saying "you suck, give up".

Oh wait GG means "good game"?

All this time I just thought people I was playing with online were just really into Gilmore Girls.
Why would someone have to indicate that they were really into The Gilmore Girls?

Sure that is everyone's default setting.

What kind of monster isn't in love with that show?
And it's coming to Netflix!

GG began to be said at the end of every match as a polite "this match is over". It lost any positive meaning when it began to be used to mock the losing side (a sarcastic "nice try").

Wait....you guys capitalize your gg? Well whoop de fucking do. Many a game of Starcraft 2 has gone with only 4 short strings exchanged:

u2

gg

Done. And that my friends is the warrior's code, greet your opponent/acknowledge his greeting, then bow in defeat/accept his surrender.
Warrior's code? The structure is there but the content is only fit for a group of uncivilized monkeys!

Personally I well never used acronym's and like to throw in a bit of creativity into mine.

I always thought it meant everybody was getting together for a hearty meal at Genghis Grill after a good, sportsmanlike match!

Scrolled down.

Spit take.

God damn it that's weirdly funny.

Ahem!

... I find this relevant to the discussion and the OP in particular.

You think saying GG is bad? In LoL, probably at least a third of the players also say WP (well played) at the end of the game. This is even if their enemies played like shit. At this point, it's gone from good sportsmanship to condescension. If I had a bad game, don't take pity on me and tell me I played well. I'd almost rather see: LOL 2 EZ.

I feel like there are two sets of people in this thread. People who haven't played League of Legends and still thinks GG has any meaning in it anymore and those who have played League of Legends and see either multiple GGs when their team went 5 kills to 20 and lost in just over 20 minutes so the game was probably terribly boring for both sides or when some fuck on your team GGing when he dies at level 1 seconds after Blue Buff spawns.

GGing after every single game regardless of quality degrades what significance it holds. This symbol doesn't mean "good game" anymore, it's just a sign that the game is over. I only GG once every like 15 games or something like that. My one friend is always consistent with his last second "EASY" though. The ****.
