Any stealth game that doesn't really feel like a stealth game to me, honestly.

1) Dishonered, because I'm basically god-mode and stealth is an option, not the whole thing.
2) Deus Ex, for the same reasons as 1.
3) Mark of the Nina, because I can see all the relevant information, so it feels more like solving a fun puzzle.
4) Stealth Bastard Deluxe, for the same reasons as 3.
5) Batman: Arkham Asylum/City, because it's not really stealth so much as hunting, with occasional spamming of RB to get away from danger.

Metal Gear(s) would have to be at the top of my list. I loved the original Spliter Cell, but oddly enough never picked up any of the sequels. Sounds like Chaos Theory is something to grab at some point.

Even though it's not purely a stealth game, I love being a thief/assassin in the Elder Scrolls games. Sneak attacking never gets old.

I really enjoyed the first couple of Assassin's Creed games - but never got around to Brotherhood. Still, good stuff!

The Batman games were absolutely brilliant! I'd add my voice to that chorus.

I'll also add some honorable mentions to dishonored, splinter cell, Tenchu Z (Only tenchu I've played, coop was fun.) and Skyrim's stealth. I haven't actually played metal gear solid.

Actually I was going to make a thread asking which Tenchu, Splinter Cell and Hitman games are worth playing on the 360 (with backwards compatability), Wii and PC?

I've heard this gens are rather naff compared to the PS2 era, are they even worth playing?

EDIT: My pick

1) Theif Series
2) Metal Gear Solid 1
3) Deux Ex
4) Chronicles of Riddick series
5) System Shock 2

Haven't played Mark of the Ninja but I do love the Abe Oddworld games

I tend to rank stealth games based on how smug they make me feel for pulling it off. As such, my top 3 are (in no particular order)...

Hitman: Blood Money-
Oh how can i count the ways...
Slipping into your target zone unnoticed, setting up a "tragic accident" and slipping out again with that smug feeling that youll be long gone before anyone gets wise.

One of the few SP games that draws out my Winning Face.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution-
I cherish having options in my sneaky scumbaggery, which is why the other 2 games i mention are Hitman games, but Human Revolution has more choice, more ways around. From picking off guards from a distance to silently taking them down up close or outright ignoring them. I love choice, and HR is full of it.

Hitman: Absolution-
Despite all the shit press its being getting, its a solid stealth/assasination game and a worthy entry in the Hitman series. And the smugness you get for that Silent Assassin rating is multiplied when even playing the game on what passes for normal offers a greater challenge than all but the harshest that Blood Money ever put forward.

1. Deus Ex Human Revolution (first game where playing stealth came entirely naturally)
2. Metro2033
3. Arkham Asylum & City (slightly less stealth than 'Batman simulator', but close enough)

Also forgot to mention Hitiman, I've only played blood money but it's damn good. It's a different kind of stealth but it does it fantastic.

Pretty much all of the Metal Gear Solid series.

Especially MGS3. I love the camouflage system.

Early Splinter Cell (I like ghosting).

Batman: Arkham City (because it had an "enemy terror" factor).

Deus Ex, because when the stealth failed I could turn on my armor and my rocket defense, break out the big guns, and give everybody a good mouth-fucking.

2 and 3 are good as well.

I don't like being forced to stealth, but I like it as a choice.

I have to give to to Chaos Theory. It punished you for being caught, and that's how it should be.
Mark of the Ninja comes in at #2 for me. Such a fantastic game.
