If I don't know you're furry/brony/whatever-ey until I look at your name or avatar and make the connection or whatever, then that is cool! If the way you introduce yourself to me is by linking me to two anthro-cows fucking and then get up me when I get slightly pissy, then well, fuck you.

Basically anything that is a PART of your personality is cool, anything that you MAKE your personality just to shove in people's faces and then feel prosecuted, is stupid.

Also, and this is just me being weird, but I really hate the word Yiff for some reason. Ugh.

I understand how the nekomimi can be cute, but that is because its 80% human.
100% animal is... a bit weird for me.

Wait, so if I have an avatar that I like it is considered shoving my likes into peoples faces?

That makes no sense.

However, if you want me to shove ponies in your face, I could do that if you really want...
Nonono, I'm saying if they way I recognise you is by you having an avatar or name or whatever, then that's cool. Like, that's more or less unavoidable anyway. I mean, I obviously like cultist-chan. But if, without me asking, you just randomly start spurting crap about how much you love ponies or drawing of animals or whatever the case, then it's annoying. I don't walk around and go on servers and stuff and say to everyone "LOOK HOW MUCH I LOVE CULTIST-CHAN", they can already tell that by the way I have it as a picture (or if they were to ask what I like, etc.).

It's true.
My avatar says a lot about me... I solve mysteries with my brother in a big van whilst wearing bell bottom trousers. I also burst into song randomly. :)

Who doesn't burst into song randomly? I thought it was a staple of life.

What? This is an issue... I don't even know what a 'furry' is... I thought that was a thing from those 2 episodes of Star Trek!? :/

**Looks it up**

Well... I guess as long as they are only shagging people dressed as animals, and not actually shagging animals then there is no issue...!

Although... Shagging people dressed as kids...? Just putting it out there...![footnote] I joke... I know there is no harm (from my short search) and is no different from what I can see to other forms of role-play...![/footnote]

But do you suddenly have a whole band playing behind you? Does every room you stand in suddenly have great acoustics? Can you sing a song flawlessly whilst running away from dastardly villains?

Furries cop a lot of flak because most people keep their weird fetishes to themselves, rather than flop them out in public and wave them around in everyone's faces.

I don't know... I see a lot of people on the bus reading 50 Shades of Grey.

Look I don't care if your thing is taking it up the ass while in a tub of Quaker oatmeal. As long as it doesn't harm others (or as long as others consent to being harmed AKA: S&M) its not my business nor my right to judge.

I do not understand the Furry thing though. I have met people who like all kinds of things, but no one has ever sat me down and explained why they like being a furry. So I guess you could say I would be curious, but never judgmental.

EDIT: If I have to come back to this thread in 2 pages time and lock it due to flaming and general nastiness then somebody is going in the bear pit.
AND LO, THE GREAT MODERATOR KNOWN AS "TIMELORD" DESCENDED FROM HIS THRONE AND SPOKE! All wise individuals shall heed his warning.
It was a chore to leave my throne let me tell you. It dispenses cookies and cider on demand so leaving it behind requires large amounts of willpower and some jumping.

And yes, I've seen too many furry themed threads end in bickering and name calling. My cookie dispensing throne has spoken!
Just like the brony threads, I'm guessing?

OT: People hate anything that's not normal. Furries are not normal. Therefore people hate furries.

(I didn't mean to offend with the not normal thing, I was just saying why people hate them)

I will go with everyone else and say that people fear what they do not understand. It is odd though, as a lot of people in the furry community debate on what constitutes being a furry is. Is it when you like the idea and aesthetic of animal people? Is it when you find them sexually appealing? Is it when you prefer animal people characters to that of regular humans in media or real life? Quite the conundrum, but that is beside the point.

I think people see the bad or more extreme/odd side of the community and only focus on that. To some, furries are a bunch of gay men in animal themed costumes having orgies in the middle of a convention hall. I have no problem with "fur suiters"(people who wear full body anthro animal costumes that are furries), gay men, or orgies, and yet it is for some reason a negative image that some people think when you mention the word "furry".

I blame CSI and 4chan mostly for the negative image that furries get, as anyone who is knowledgeable about either CSI or 4chan would tell you that they do/did not represent furries very well(not to say that 4chan doesn't take the piss out of only furries, hell, nothing is sacred over there, and that works just fine. Even then though, 4chan or b in particular mellowed out the furry hate quite a lot).

As for anyone who is curious on what an average furry is, well I am an example. I figure most furries like myself just enjoy the aesthetic look of an "animal person". Many furries look at or make art, music, stories, and other forms of media that are anthro themed. Some of the media may be erotic, some not.

I mean not all "gamers" are 12 year old americans with a potty mouth, but that is what some people see us as. So why dont we all just get along and hold hands eh?

Edit: I also have to mention that people with persecution complexes tend to exist in all sorts of fandoms, but for some reason furries seem to be the well known for it. I suppose people should just chill and not take everything as an insult, or perhaps they should not "jump the gun" so to speak when it comes to debates about furries.

I've got no problem with anthropomorphic characters, and I don't see how anyone can really. Anthropomorphic characters are everywhere, and they often define our childhoods. Just take a look at the likes of Disney, WB, Hanna Barbera, and countless video game characters.

It's when it's a sexual fetish it freaks me out. It's bordering on bestiality. In a way it's even worse, because it's a confused mix of animals and humans. At least animals are real, but it's disturbing to me that someone would want some strange freakish being that's in between the two. It doesn't seem like a healthy mindset to me.

It weirds me out because it's them seemingly attracted to animal/human-things. But that said, I don't hate them. If they like that, so be it--it's not for me to even care. There's no need to hate them because they're different. I just don't like it for myself and I would never do it.
